One week old baby- husband won't discuss a name.

DD3 born last week. Now ten days old.

For the other two we compromised on names, although husband always exaggerates claims he feels the other two were names he compromised on and were never his own choices. This is wrong. We both compromised and neither got our first choice.

DD3 and he wants something so plain and generic I just cannot even contemplate it. Angela. I don't like it. Fairly dated now. We are also Scottish and Irish so everyone is expecting something Scottish, Irish or Celtic especially as other two DC have those connotations to their names.

He is refusing to even have a discussion on any other name. Keeps saying hello little Angela to the baby to wind me up. Last night I said I wouldn't be bullied into a name I didn't like, especially as this week he has gone straight back to work 3 days post birth, he has been no help with the baby. In a week I'd say he's changed 3 nappies. Given her one feed. Yet despite his hopelessness it's a my way or highway name.

The amount of texts I am receiving asking about a name is driving me mad and clearly indicates we're having problems.

What would you do?

What about a variation?
Angelina, Angeline, Angelina? Prettier imo.

Side note, I think Agnes is super cute and not far away. Irish version is Úna which may be a compromise?

LadyJaneHall · 01/07/2022 12:27

Is Nancy or Nansi popular now? The only Nancies I have come across are in their 70s or more - Nancy Reagan would be around 100 if alive.
Angela is not quite so old.

NahNoWay · 01/07/2022 12:30

Angelica?
Angelina?
Angie?
Angeline?

NoHeavenNoMore · 01/07/2022 12:32

Please call her Angela

2bazookas · 01/07/2022 12:35

I'd get down the Registry Office PDQ and register the b aby's birth with my preferred name. I would then forget to mention this to DH or anyone other arsehole exerting pressure re baby name.

One day, sometime in the future, when DH wakes up and says "Hey babe, it's time we went down to register the baby" .. I'd say casually "Don't worry, babes, I already did it "

redwaterbottle · 01/07/2022 12:40

I think given he's wanted that name since day 1 and he has a connection with it I would go with it. Wouldn't be my choice but I don't like your choices either- sorry.

AndStand · 01/07/2022 12:43

This is the first time I've seen my name crop up on baby naming!!
Personally I like Angela, though most people call me Angie.

But out of your choices OP I like Orla.

I didn't realise some people held such a strong hatred of the name!! 😔😉

SkeletonFight · 01/07/2022 12:46

Angelina Ballerina 😬

rosyvalentine · 01/07/2022 12:47

Congrats OP. As far as I'm aware, the Irish version/spelling of Nancy is Nainsí. Hope you come to some agreement with your DH soon.

Aine and Anya are not pronounced the same.

They often are in the north of Ireland, even if spelt Áine. Donegal Irish doesn't always attribute the same importance to the fada, in pronuciation.

Cakecakecheese · 01/07/2022 12:48

Yeah it's not so much the name but the way he's gone about it. I wonder if he'd be so set on it if you weren't so against it?

goodmorningcampers · 01/07/2022 12:50

I don't think there's anything wrong with Angela especially with a family connection. But with another DC already named after the Grandad it would seem a bit OTT. I'd go with Angel as that's lovely

CeriBerry · 01/07/2022 12:51

As a Welsh person (fluent first language) I can’t get over how rude and disrespectful some of you are towards Nansi to be honest!

‘Illiterate?!’

Would you say that about a French/Spanish/Irish name?

And yes, I do know that Nansi isn’t originally a Welsh name but rather a Welsh spelling of an English one, but it’s a very established variant in Wales.

GlitteryGreen · 01/07/2022 12:54

I agree with @GiltEdges , I am so surprised so many are saying they'd just go and register the baby as whatever they wanted 😕 That would cause an almighty row between any couple, surely?

I am pregnant and it has been hard to agree a girl's name with my DP as we just have completely different tastes. I had set my heart on a name but he hated it, and he wanted to name her after his grandmother which I wasn't comfortable with. We both had to let those go and find something else we both didn't hate - which we have done, even though it's not our first choice.

If either of us was to go and register the baby with our own choice, despite the other saying no, I honestly think we'd probably split up over it!! Massive betrayal of trust.

goodmorningcampers · 01/07/2022 13:01

In my neck of the woods Angela is the code word if you need help on a date, go to bar and 'Ask for Angela' . Not sure if this will make the name more or less popular

DotDotDotDotDot · 01/07/2022 13:03

Sorry if it’s been said already but Nansí is the Irish spelling of Nancy, both spellings I like. I can’t believe how many people are saying op should just call their baby Angela when she clearly dislikes the name. OP I hope you find a resolution, your partner has acted like a bully, enjoy your new baby.

MissMoodyMoo · 01/07/2022 13:04

What about Angelina?

Lina for short?

Love Nansí

TokyoTen · 01/07/2022 13:05

Well... you can just go and register the baby yourself. Job done if he won't discuss.

SuffolkPunch27 · 01/07/2022 13:09

Scottish mid 30s ahem "lady" here that goes by the name Angela. To be far, I've yet to come across another Angela my age. We Angela's are few and far between!
Think you need to both sit down and both come to compromise in regards to a name and find something you can both agree on otherwise there will be underlying resentment

TolkiensFallow · 01/07/2022 13:10

Nansi is lovely!

Personally I’d always pop a name I don’t like in as a middle name for the brownie points!

Marcipex · 01/07/2022 13:10

I really like Nansí or Nansi. Very pretty.

I don’t like Angela, but I do know an Angelica which is nicer. I like your partner’s behaviour even less.

Same here 😂 hello fellow Angela!!
I personally hate being called "Angie" and prefer "Ange"

Oceanus · 01/07/2022 13:14

Just wanted to say I love the name Orla OP! It has such a nice ring to it. I can see a little wee girl with it and I can picture a grown woman with a posh job with it too.

DotDotDotDotDot · 01/07/2022 13:15

Sorry I made a mistake with my pp, the Irish spelling of Nancy is Nainsí. My cousin called daughter this.
