I’ll go first, I hate to say but I genuinely think nevaeh has such a pretty sound but the name itself tends to get alot of hate.

Susan and Sarah are thought to be dull but I like them.

Sarah is a beautiful name.

I agree it's beautiful. But it's never not going to be associated with the devil / fallen angel. We contemplated Lucien as an alt but someone we knew used it just before us and it felt too unusual to use twice so closely

Another vote for Tiffany here!

Does it not just just make you think of Eastenders and that ginger girl singing in shopping malls? 🤷🏻‍♀️

What have I missed with Dixie?

It's referring to the name for southern US confederate states in the slavery era and as such has racist connotations I believe .

I love all of the below, ut each has had poor reception here and in real life.

Frank - horrible and ugly according to recent thread
Dolores - links to Lolita make it an issue for some people
Margarita - the obvious pizza and cocktail jokes

My old boss had a daughter called Marguerite which I adored, and gets round the pizza connotations

I love the names Jasper and Atticus but have seen people on MN saying they think both are pretentious and try hard.

Comments that Jasper is a ‘dog/cat’ name. That Atticus is ‘I once read a book for GCSE English…” and even a nasty “Atticus the Twaticus” comment.

Still hasn’t changed my mind on them though 🙂

Love Jasper.

Also love Sharon and Karen, and with a 'C' it's even more beautiful (Caren).
When I was pregnant with my first I was obsessed with Ariel for a boy (as in Ariel Sharon). Lots of amazing Biblical names for boys too. I love Solomon, David, Stephen and Elisha. I also love the Arabic for Jesus (Isa, I think?). Jordan is stunning too.

mathanxiety · 15/06/2022 04:40

Karen/Karin is a lovely name imo.

KirstenBlest · 15/06/2022 10:59

Karen/Karin is nice. Caren is just wrong.

CatsArePeople · 16/06/2022 06:52

I really love Kevin and Kyle

PleaseYourselfandEatTheCrusts · 19/07/2022 09:09

Bernadette is good too.

JasmineVioletRose · 19/07/2022 15:22

Niamh is nothing like Nevaeh

@Luredbyapomegranate - well that's not entirely true is it?

They sound more similar than say Batman & Robin!

Yep, one's made up. But there's a similarity to the sound 🤷‍♀️

Neeve
Nur vay ya

Doris (from Greek; bountiful, I think) and Nora. I guess people get hooked on what they associate them with. You get stuff like oh, no, Corrie, Easstenders, Day etc. Often people can’t see/hear the name anymore.

Titsflyingsouth · 19/07/2022 15:43

I love Seth but it seems to get very polarised views on here. To be it just feels a very solid, unpretentious , dependable type of name to me.

Idiotintraining · 19/07/2022 16:49

If i had a girl her name would of been jorjanna and one of her middle names would of been solstice.

I don't like name like Neil and Colin. In school they are a few children with older names like quincy and horace. There not for me either.

Enko · 20/07/2022 09:29

I love Basil wanted it for a boy but dh was on. A hard no.

Also love Colin. Additionally all the Colins I've met have been lovely men so I have positive association's

Love Horatio. But that gets a lot of negativity here.

Love Lilith it was on our short list but got pushed off for other names. I like the story behind it too.

How do you pronounce Nevaeh ? Like never-eh? Or never-eh. Either said in a Yorkshire accent sounds right.

The Neveah in DDs dance class pronounces it ‘nuh-vuh’

pinksquash13 · 22/07/2022 03:33

I love Augustus nn Gus. Everyone I've suggested it to said no it's a fat / bullied kid's name. Still really like it.

Inarightpickleandpreserve · 22/07/2022 03:49

Penelope. It’s bloody amazing name

calmlakes · 22/07/2022 03:50

I love Persephone and I like Mercedes.

Qwertysfine · 22/07/2022 03:56

Same with Tracy , I think that's actually a nice name and I love Georgia , Georgiana .

Qwertysfine · 22/07/2022 03:59

Augustus being a fatty ? are people thinking of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? Wasn't Augustus Gloop quite tubby in the film .

marvellousmaple · 22/07/2022 05:15

What's the problem with Penelope. That's a pretty standard name isn't it?

JudithandHolofernesHead · 22/07/2022 06:03

My husband proposed Rebecca for our dd but I rejected it because I knew a horrible one at school. Also, Becky as a nn grates on my ears. It's her middle name though Hmm

I was talking about this recently with my daughter. It’s not a name but chlamydia sounds like it could be a name. We agreed it’s quite cute 😂

I feel similarly about Rubella - like a lovely mash up of Ruby and Ella. Such a shame it's the name of a disease 😂
