I’ll go first, I hate to say but I genuinely think nevaeh has such a pretty sound but the name itself tends to get alot of hate.

Mumsnet only seems to approve of white middle-class baby names, anything else is branded ‘awful’

P00rKids · 13/06/2022 09:11

Gerty - I had a late auntie Gerty (I secretly love it). Maybe not so secret now

I like Georgia which always gets blasted on mn.

So do I. Stunning name.

IslaRoseGraceEtc · 13/06/2022 09:18

I love the 70s names. Ideally my kids would be called Paul, Guy, Madeline and Nicola.

Sadly vetoed by DH in favour of things more currently on trend!

EweCee · 13/06/2022 09:18

Lexi - its a simple, sweet name but get loads of hate on MN (yet I know quite a few and all from MN 'white Middle class' families)
Ophelia - also has hate but I think its lovely

DoNutSweatTheSmallStuff · 13/06/2022 09:20

I like Jason and Sarah.

I like the name Myra too but obviously that's a no go...

Favouritefruits · 13/06/2022 09:24

Adonis, my DH wouldn’t even consider it but I think it’s a lovely name and it would have gone very well with our surname.

InvisibleDragon · 13/06/2022 09:27

I really like Roxanne. Not realistically usable though!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/06/2022 09:38

Nigel and Colin.

The thing that irritates me about Nevaeh is, why would you want to call a child 'HeavenBackwards'? What's it supposed to signify? Why not just Heaven?

babyjellyfish · 13/06/2022 09:07

I think Karen is a nice name.

Unusable now of course.

I was going to say this! I think it's beautiful, really elegant and unfussy.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/06/2022 09:46

I've always disliked it but illogically. There was a horrible girl called Karen at my primary school.

I don't think Nevaeh is hated because of anything other than people always adding "it's heaven spelled backwards" on to the end of it.

I looked after a woman on the maternity ward who had named her baby Ian, and the more I said it, the more beautiful it sounded.

iamasharon · 13/06/2022 09:55

Thank you to supporters of Sharon. I've lived with the piss-taking all my life (thanks, Birds of a Feather...) so just a few positives made my day. Smile

clpsmum · 13/06/2022 09:57

I like surname names

youcantparktheresir · 13/06/2022 10:33

I really like the name Maria but got shot down with DD as it was 'to old and frumpy'

I also LOVE Barney for a boy.

DDs name is also a large down in the U.K. and her middle name is 'done to death' but I adore her name and it suits her immensely.

I don't think people are any where near as much in real life as they do on MN!

Divebar2021 · 13/06/2022 10:43

Sharon has a really lovely sound to it but you don’t hear it after a while - you have to think about it. I bet a hot French or Italian guy could make it sound amazing. Daphne also sounds good to me… very sweet though. I can’t imagine Daphne running an international corporation / drugs ring.

( no idea why Georgia has a bad rap although I am imagining someone quite haughty)

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 13/06/2022 10:47

Courtney is nice.

KirstenBlest · 13/06/2022 10:50

Courtney is nice.
It sounds like Caw'nay around here. Caw'nay's sister is called Pige

SpindleSheWrote · 13/06/2022 10:52

Sharon is pronounced ShaRON in Israel (שרון), both as a place and a name. It's interesting how a simple shift of emphasis can can transport a name from Essex to the Middle East.

Noonado · 13/06/2022 10:55

I quite like Nevaeh too. The “heaven backwards” thing is deeply naff, but it’s a pretty sound if only it didn’t have that association.

I like Artemis, which I’ve seen slated as too pretentious here, and Tyler (too common).

I like some of the solid 70s boy names my classmates had; Simon, Philip, Jonathan, Richard etc. I hope they make a comeback soon. Jason also deserves more love.

Oh, and Karen is lovely. Such a shame!

itssquidstella · 13/06/2022 10:56

I really like Jason.

KirstenBlest · 13/06/2022 10:56

I think Sharon is nice, and Karen is ok.
I like Neil too

PutinIsAWarCriminal · 13/06/2022 10:59

Isn't Nevaeh just an incorrect way of spelling Niamh or is it just about the backwards heaven thing? In the 80s they used to say that holy words said backwards was devil worship, which might explain the hate 🤣.
Niamh is a beautiful name.
Its a shame how middle Englanders are stuck up about Irish and black heritage names.

blugray · 13/06/2022 11:02

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 12/06/2022 19:34

I've never known Niamh to be mispronounced? What is the mispronunciation that is now mainstream?

Pronouncing it how it is spelled eg “Nyam”
