Louis if you spell it correctly.

Newbubs · 01/06/2022 08:33

I wouldn’t spell it that way as I think he’l be called Lewis often
i like the way i would spell it… Louie

I prefer Jude. Mumsnet will tell you Louie is an awful misspelling of Louis, but at this point, Louie is more like a variant than a misspelling. Louie is actually more popular than Louis in England and Wales. Though, if you are in the UK I think that most people would pronounce Louis as Louie, rather than Lewis, so I wouldn’t let that put me off.

Fanofcrisps · 01/06/2022 08:39

My sister has a beautiful Louie. Love the name. She chose that spelling for the same reason. A vote for Louie from me 😊

Fivebeanchilli · 01/06/2022 08:40

Jude.
Partly because it's a lovely name and partly because I really dislike the Louie spelling. It reminds me of Donald Duck.
I can't imagine many people genuinely pronouncing Louis as Lewis.
I would still pick Jude over Louis but only just.

Indigoo03 · 01/06/2022 08:42

I like Louie....when I read Jude I see Jud (As in Mud)...

babyjellyfish · 01/06/2022 08:43

Jude, on the basis that I'm not a fan of the Louie spelling.

suckingonchillidogs · 01/06/2022 08:43

Much prefer Jude - stronger and edgier

Newbubs · 01/06/2022 08:44

Thanks everyone

I don't like Jude at all.

Louis is nice but the Louie spelling is awful. It may be more popular but it's a trend, and the name will date badly.

Orangedaffodil543 · 01/06/2022 08:47

I have a Louis and he only very rarely gets called Lewis, the majority know it’s pronounced Louie. Louie is the more popular spelling but I personally think Louis is so much nicer! I’d say Louis if spelt like this, otherwise I prefer Jude. Both lovely names though.

timestheyarechanging · 01/06/2022 10:19

Jude. I know several Louis and they're all lovely. My ExH grew up with Jude Law and funnily enough, he named his son the same name as my ex. They're no longer in contact, my ex said he was a twat and thought himself better than everyone else and lied about where he went to school!

KylieCharlene · 01/06/2022 10:22

Jude.

inmyslippers · 01/06/2022 10:31

That's such a tough choice! Both lovely names I can see your predicament. I think Jude just pips it for me

knackered81 · 01/06/2022 10:34

Nope. Jude the Obscure always springs to mind.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 01/06/2022 10:35

Louis is lovely. Only spelt like that though.

stacestation · 01/06/2022 10:53

Jude. Though I prefer 'Louis' spelling over both.

RewildingAmbridge · 01/06/2022 10:58

Jude, I very nearly called my DS Jude, it's not overly popular, is simple uncomplicated, not too out there

DariaMorgendorffer · 01/06/2022 10:59

Jude. Not Louie unless it's spelt Louis.

ELM8 · 01/06/2022 11:05

I know a "Lewis" spelt "Louis" so I agree it can be confusing. I like the spelling Louie.. Jude also a lovely name

withsexypantsandasausagedog · 01/06/2022 11:16

Jude all the way. I don't get the popularity of Louis/ Louie. It seems quite harsh to my ears.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 01/06/2022 11:22

If you spell it correctly, then Louis... love that name Louie looks semi-literate

Jude is quite nice though, too.

HappyHappyHermit · 01/06/2022 11:23

June is lovely, to me Louie or Louis sound wet.

HappyHappyHermit · 01/06/2022 11:25

*Jude

RebeccaCloud9 · 01/06/2022 11:26

Louie is cute for a baby but a full grown man? Not so sure. Also MEGA popular at the moment. Loads of Louie/Louis in schools. I really like Jude.
