Aubree or Kaydence?

i do prefer modern names, the old fashioned lily, Olivia, etc isn’t really my style. My husband likes aubree which I think is adorable but I think it’s becoming a lot more commonly used now and I like Kaydence because I think it’s more unusual. Neither are that common in England but that dosent bother me. Which one? Middle name will be Skye

Colleen is that you? Congratulations, but Jesus, Mary and Joseph, get over the matchy names thing! You’ve come so far, using a C instead of a K for your littlest one, don’t throw it all away now!!

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 20/05/2022 21:16

I normally wouldn’t presume to say this but those names/spellings are awful, really common 😳.

unless your other kids are Jayden, Chelsee and Cortnee then go for it!

Sorry, let my snob shine thru for a moment.

Call your kids what you like, you’re the one that’s going to have to shout it in a supermarket.

Shock

I taught an AbbeyGale. And an Anakin.

Puffalicious · 20/05/2022 21:19

OP please stop shouting. You're coming across as a brat. You don't like the responses, fine, you can call your child what you like, but you're just getting opinions here of a cross-section of society, and it's not looking good.

I personally teach teenage girls: I know Camryn, Cadie, Sonny, Kaylee, Kerris, Karis, Aleeceann, Ceejay, Dylan, Dillon, Kacie, Kelsey, Kelcee, Eeva, Fraya, Payton, ... I could go on. It's exhausting and tedious. I inwardly cheer when I can spell their names without checking constantly I have it right.

littlefoot20 · 20/05/2022 21:59

Aubree Skye 👌🏻

Evasmissingletter · 20/05/2022 22:09

The spelling made me immediately think of the cocky rebel boys in an American high school drama. Pants showing and baseball hat on back to front with big swagger.

what Are people not understanding??! Unisex names are modern in the girl name world. Only in the 90s did names like Ashley and Aubrey start to get used for girls. They were obviously names years before for boys but how does no one understand they are in modern because they were never used for girls 100 years ago😳Baffles me

For the same reason that I wouldn't name a baby girl Trevor.

OgdensGoneNutFlake · 20/05/2022 22:21

Both nice if spelled properly-
Aubrey and Cadence.

Please don't set them up for a lifetime of correcting the spelling...

HoraThird · 20/05/2022 22:23

The 'yooneek' spellings are awful. Screams 'look at me I'm trying to be special and different'.

But if you spell them properly- Aubrey and Cadence they are fine. I prefer Cadence.

SleeplessWB · 20/05/2022 22:35

I think Cadence is lovely and Cadie/Cady is a good nickname. Cadence Skye is beautiful. Unusual but pretty.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 20/05/2022 22:35

I used to love Teen Mom. Just googled Chelsea and Aubree and am shook to learn that Aubree is now 14!

I remember that her dad was always so lovely and supportive of her. And seemed to have plenty of $$$.

Sorry for the derail! Grin

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 20/05/2022 22:56

Why on earth would you call a girl Sonny? It's pretty much the same as naming her 'Boy'. It's unimaginative when used for a boy, but at least it's accurate.

It's the child equivalent of calling a pet hamster 'Hammy' - except more like calling your hamster 'Bunny' or 'Ratty'.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/05/2022 22:58

Girls have been given boys names that then become girls names for ages, there's nothing modern about it. How long did Evelyn or Hilary or Beverley etc etc stay 'modern' for, I wonder?
Aubrey doesn't sound 'modern' for a girl, and Aubree is just a bit silly.

Amandawest447 · 20/05/2022 19:11

@WhatsInAMolatovMocktail not going to explain this again. UNSIEX NAMES FOR GIRLS ARE MODERN BECAUSE THEY HAVE ONLY BEEN GIVEN TO GIRLS IN THE PAST MAYBE 30 YEARS. Aubrey is “old fashioned” for a boy nowadays but do you not understand that it’s modern for a girl to have. A lot of names that were used for boys years ago are now predominantly trendy girl names. Why is everyone finding that so hard to accept nowadays. A boy would be bullied if he had a name like Ashley or Addison nowadays because of your under 30 the image it creates in your head is a girl…

I must tell the male Ashley’s that I teach that they will get bullied. Which they don’t.

DarleneSnell · 20/05/2022 23:13

Dislike Aubrey/Aubree, girl or boy.

Cadence is quite nice but only spelt that way. Kaydence would be Kardashian-esque in the US, and here people will just think you were too ignorant to know the correct spelling, or even look it up. Don't lumber your child with it.

PriamFarrl · 20/05/2022 23:14

I await all the baby girls called Trevor, David, Ian, William, Nigel…….

Jesus. I had hoped it might in isolation. Abigail is a fine name. Why did they feel the need to do that to it?!

I’ve also encountered siblings called Banner and Loki. 😐

GerronBuzanDoThaWomwok · 20/05/2022 23:18

Neither

ithinkidbetterleaverightnow · 20/05/2022 23:23

I wouldn't choose either but Aubrey is nicer sounding than Cadence. Sky(e) is lovely.

What about Audrey?

You are much, much more honest than I was...I salute you with a very large mug of builder's tea ☕😂

Just how I like it! In a china cup obs 😉

TheWayTheLightFalls

Aubrey or Cadence for me. People will likely interpret your unusual spellings as parental stupidity and judge you and your child for it.

Absolutely this. I prefer Aubrey although I wouldn’t chose either but at least spell them correctly.

AndAsIfByMagic · 21/05/2022 06:51

When teachers look down the name list of their new class they can be very judgmental.

Those names would make them sigh and know what kind of parents the poor kid has.

Tryagain2020 · 21/05/2022 07:02

I love Skye.

I would choose Kaydence if I had to pick from the two. It looks Kardashian but could at least be shortened to Kay.

Cadence would be better, and is much more unusual than Aubree if that's what you want. Siblings don't need to match.

I dislike Aubrey and Aubree. However, Aubree is much more common in the UK than I realised (372nd in England and Wales). Aubrey is at 238, so together it's not THAT unusual a name. I'd assume you were American.

GreenWhiteViolet · 21/05/2022 07:20

I like Aubrey. It makes me think of Jack Aubrey, but that's an obscure reference and not a bad one. Cadence is also fine as a name despite being a musical term, I think.

Aubree is awful. The -ee makes the name twee and infantilised, not prettier. Kaydence isn't as bad as Aubree, because at least she can go by Kay if she doesn't want to have to explain the misspelled name when she's older.
