Aubree or Kaydence?

i do prefer modern names, the old fashioned lily, Olivia, etc isn’t really my style. My husband likes aubree which I think is adorable but I think it’s becoming a lot more commonly used now and I like Kaydence because I think it’s more unusual. Neither are that common in England but that dosent bother me. Which one? Middle name will be Skye

I'm sorry, but they're both awful. Kaydence is especially bad. It reminds me of a poster a while back who wanted opinions on the name Paisleigh. Kaydence is equally dreadful 🤷🏾‍♂️

EufyProsser · 20/05/2022 19:03

Cadence is quite an odd word to use as a name, to my ears. It doesn't really reflect a quality, like Constance or even Prudence. It's like calling your child Sequence. Or Consequence.

Although a child called Consequence is literally a consequence of something...

Amandawest447 · 20/05/2022 19:08

what Are people not understanding??! Unisex names are modern in the girl name world. Only in the 90s did names like Ashley and Aubrey start to get used for girls. They were obviously names years before for boys but how does no one understand they are in modern because they were never used for girls 100 years ago😳Baffles me

Many names are unisex. I've just never seen Aubrey on a girl.

It's the spellings that are far more off putting than the actual names.

Amandawest447 · 20/05/2022 19:11

@WhatsInAMolatovMocktail not going to explain this again. UNSIEX NAMES FOR GIRLS ARE MODERN BECAUSE THEY HAVE ONLY BEEN GIVEN TO GIRLS IN THE PAST MAYBE 30 YEARS. Aubrey is “old fashioned” for a boy nowadays but do you not understand that it’s modern for a girl to have. A lot of names that were used for boys years ago are now predominantly trendy girl names. Why is everyone finding that so hard to accept nowadays. A boy would be bullied if he had a name like Ashley or Addison nowadays because of your under 30 the image it creates in your head is a girl…

These aren't "modern names", they are just spelt badly.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 20/05/2022 19:15

OP, MN is the wrong place to come looking for opinions on the style of names that you're into. The majority of people here are concerned foremost with sounding as middle class as possible.

Pixilicious1 · 20/05/2022 19:15

the spellings are awful for both of them. But Aubree is better than Kaydence

There's a "girl name world"?! Fuck me.

I agree with what everyone else is saying about the spellings, really. The ones you've suggested look trashy and contrived.

Aubrey and Cadence are lovely names, imo. I like the musical association with Cadence, Cady for short is nice, and Aubrey is a pretty word.

KirstenBlest · 20/05/2022 19:16

Skye is ok but Aubree and Kaydence are awful. Aubrey is a boy's name and Cadence is a musical term. Spelling them differently makes them look naff

DoubleCarbs4Life · 20/05/2022 19:17

The names are fine, but the spellings aren’t good.

Aubree is trying extra hard to not be Aubrey.

Kaydence takes a musical term, Cadence, and turns it into a made up sounding name. It’s like calling your child Mewzik or Mellowdee.

Bit silly.

Didododo · 20/05/2022 19:19

Have you considered Lesley/Leslie? Unisex and a classic. Definitely underused since the 1950s which makes it sound fresh and unique, don’t you think?

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 20/05/2022 19:23

Don't inflict either of these on.your dd. If she's Aubrey she will have a lifetime of saying "No, not Audrey", and Kaydence just looks as if you can't spell and will reflect badly on.your DD. Ffs think of your DD and not about being trendy.

shmivorytower · 20/05/2022 19:25

with names it’s obvs different strokes for different folks.

FirstFallopians · 20/05/2022 19:26

I have one of the male-names-turned-to-female:

Ashley, Hillary, Lesley, Lindsay, Jordan etc.

The thing they all have in common is that they’ve dated horrendously. They’re not classics, no one hears one of those names and thinks “that’s criminally underused these days.” My mum probably thought she my name was modern and stylish when she picked it in the late 80s, but in 2022 someone only needs to see my name on my cv to guess when I was born and my background.

Trialsandtribulationsoflife · 20/05/2022 19:31

I’m wondering what the other children are called…

fluffycereal · 20/05/2022 19:34

I'm not really getting all the posters who say Aubrey but spell it Aubrey. These have different ends sounds!

Aub REE

Aub RAY

I'll make my point again.

Aubrey, Ashley, Cameron, Jordan and so on started as boys' names. Now they're used mostly for girls.

Where are the girls' names that parents are picking for their boys? Where are the boys being named Daisy, Evie, Iona?

Why is it so marvellous to use what was a boys' name for a girl, if you wouldn't do the reverse?

turquoise1988 · 20/05/2022 19:35

@fluffycereal where I'm from, Aubrey is pronounced Aub-tee, whether male or female.

I agree with PPs. The names are okay but the spellings are awful.

turquoise1988 · 20/05/2022 19:35

Grrr, that's supposed to say Aub-ree

NohoHank · 20/05/2022 19:37

Aubrey spelt the correct way is ok. It doesn't look prettier with ee at the end, it looks silly. It's a male name though traditionally. Audrey is better. Kaydence is awful. Skye is the best of a bad bunch.

Olivia isn't 'old fashioned'. Aubrey is. 🤨

A male Ashley would not be bullied 'for having a girls name' nowdays 🙄.

DotDotDotDotDot · 20/05/2022 19:39

You keep saying they are modern names OP but I find them quite dated actually, to say 20 years ago. Skye would be lovely as a first name though.

NotYourOscarSpeech · 20/05/2022 19:40

Aubrey is nice (and I don’t hate your spelling of it although I prefer the real spelling). Reminds me of Aubrey Plaza.

Kaydence is just awful. They will be judged for that name (sorry, but it’s true, including outside of the Mumsnet competitive middle class naming bubble).

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 20/05/2022 19:41

It reminds me of a poster a while back who wanted opinions on the name Paisleigh.

I misread that as 'Parsleigh' and wondered what kind of a dill you'd have to be to call your kid that Grin

Bournetilly · 20/05/2022 19:44

I like Aubrey, I don’t like the spelling Aubree at all. It’s an old fashioned name though.
Kaydence is awful
