Me and my partner have already decided on the name for one of our twin boys and he’s going to be called Ambrose.

we wanted opinions on which name for a bother would go best and we’re open for suggestions, on our list so far we have

Balthazar
Magnus
Oswald
Thaddeus
Solomon

Many Thanks

I don't really get the Ambrose/Bram thing either.

Dinoteeth · 18/05/2022 20:48

Patrick?
Ambrose is different although I've never heard anyone called it however I really don't like Bram, sound too much like bran or bam as in bampot.

ZenNudist · 18/05/2022 20:51

None of those sorry. I don't mind Ambrose but then I'm a big fan of saints and religious names.

First thought: Benedict (Bram and Ben sounds good)

Dominic is a good one but I reckon too normal for you. (Bram and Dom)

Ditto Sebastian (Bram and Seb)

Nathaniel (Bram and Nate)

Anthony and Ambrose sound like a good pair

For Catholic max how about Francis ? (Bram and Frank)

If you fancy something biblical and obscure there's always Absalom (Solomon's brother). So Bram and Sal?

ThatshallotBaby · 18/05/2022 20:51

Solomon or Magnus

SpaceJamtart · 18/05/2022 20:51

Solomon is the best one of them, I knew one who went by Sol and a Solo

Please don't saddle the poor soul with Ambrose!!! He won't thank you for it, that's for sure!!!

Rahrahrahrahannoyed · 18/05/2022 21:01

Love Love name Ambrose.
What about Eustace?

Watapalava · 18/05/2022 21:03

Sorry op but that’s probably the worst list of names I’ve ever seen

ambrose just reminds me of Devon custard!

he’ll be teased for life

Grumpylabrador · 18/05/2022 21:06

Qwill · 18/05/2022 20:42

Lysander is beautiful, any chance he’ll change his mind? I really wanted Florian, but my partner vetoed that, still a bit annoyed!!

I’ll keep trying, he didn’t like Ambrose at first so they’re always a chance

Nothing is for sure about what a newborn will make of their name as an adult. The babies’ parents don’t know what they’ll think, let alone random strangers on the internet. DH and I have very classic/dull ‘Mumsnet approved’ names, but we want something more unusual for our children. It doesn’t mean that other people with our names wouldn’t love them though.

And with regards to the teasing comment, I don’t think children are teased because of their names, though names can be used to tease children. A confident popular child can pull off any name, and even a very classic name won’t stop poor Spotty Lottie or Smelly Ellie being teased if people are so inclined.

elfran · 18/05/2022 21:10

Don't look any further than Magnus, it's perfect. Bram and Gus. ❤️

(I've had flack on this board for suggesting that Magnus could be nicknamed Gus before, but I do know one and it seems perfectly natural to me. As does Bram for Ambrose - so we might be similar, shall I say, more flexible? nicknamers, OP. 😉)

Benedict would be on our list but we have a close friend named Ben

Nightynightnight · 18/05/2022 21:12
