Me and my partner have already decided on the name for one of our twin boys and he’s going to be called Ambrose.

we wanted opinions on which name for a bother would go best and we’re open for suggestions, on our list so far we have

Balthazar
Magnus
Oswald
Thaddeus
Solomon

Many Thanks

Not sure why all the derision on this thread. You'd never get away with 'chavvy'.

The names are not to everyone's taste but there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. Just because they're not what you might encounter doesn't mean there's something wrong with them.

Amber rose 😆

Some very ignorant remarks on the Baby Names board tonight.

LittleBearPad · 19/05/2022 02:18

First thought custard. Sorry!

Shedcity · 19/05/2022 02:32

Magnus (gus) is the best one on your list
and I looooove Ambrose. I think they go really well together. Congrats op!

laszlo (zloh?)
Lucien
dexter
Callahan
alarick (rick)

Since Ambrosius was allegedly Merlin's name, I naturally thought of Arthur for his twin.

I think roman names could go well too - Aurelian, Valerian, Marius, Octavian, Felix.

Or greek names - Constantin, Theodore, Basil.

itstrue · 19/05/2022 04:50

If you can make sure that the names you pick sound good no matter which name goes first.

My twins name sound much better with one before the other. It very much upsets one that she never is called first.

WhatsInAMolatovMocktail · 19/05/2022 04:51

Cuthbert - Bram & Bert is cute
Constantine
Bayden
Ichabod

breatheintheamazing · 19/05/2022 05:06

Nice names if you plan on setting them up for a lifetime of ridicule and embarrassment. If you planning on calling one Bram for short then just name him Bram

I'm obsessed with Thibo at the moment.

Is that pronounced tee-bow

Maybe he could be a Benedict nn Ned rather than Ben? Bram and Ned sound nice together.

If you don't mind me asking, as I have never had twins, how do you plan to choose which son has which name? Or will you decide when you meet them?

That’s a good I idea to have Ned as a nn

were going to decide who’s who when they’re born

Is this thread what it's like to walk into a classroom at Eton and be introduced to everyone?

🤣🤣 I think it's very obvious that me and the OP move in very different circles!!

PollysPockets · 19/05/2022 07:20

Ambrose and Emrys
Emrys is the welsh version of Ambrose so just a suggestion.

DFOD · 19/05/2022 07:27

I am not sure how you will “control” the nickname unless you plan to call them that 100% of the time from birth?

ThatshallotBaby · 19/05/2022 07:29

I know a 12 yo Ambrose. Normal family.
What about Claude?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/05/2022 07:36

Of your list, Solomon

Alternatives - Malachi, Zebulon

DBro is Ambrose. Largely know as Ambrose or Brose. I don’t see how Bram works as a diminutive - the “am” and “br” sounds are the wrong way round.

20viona · 19/05/2022 07:47

@Choopi 😂😂

pantherrose · 19/05/2022 08:27

Thibault is the correct spelling of Thibo and is pronounced "Teebo" I like the pronounciation, but written it makes me think of ´Thigh bolt' for some reason!

Similar to Bram for Ambrose never heard Ned as a nn for Benedict - heard used for nn for Edward.

Do you plan to use the nn exclusively from birth?

17caterpillars1mouse · 19/05/2022 09:30

I really like Ambrose

Balthazar - a bit much. He would definitely need the right personality to pull it off and I imagine he would be envious of Ambrose. Would you like to introduce yourself as Balthazar?

Magnus - I like it and it goes well with Ambrose. My friend has recently had a baby Magnus.

Oswald - I really like it, but I know when I've asked about it on her before everybody has mentioned the fascist Oswald Moseley. I don't know if that would be the reaction in real life but I'm not sure I'd want people assuming I'd named my child after a fascist. Shame as it's a lovely name

Thaddeus - it's ok. I always think it comes across as a bit try hard to be honest

Solomon - lovely name, I slightly prefer Magnus but again it goes well with Ambrose

A few suggestions:

Ambrose and Leander
Ambrose and Dominic
Ambrose and Rufus
Ambrose and Heath
Ambrose and Joel
Ambrose and Sebastian
Ambrose and Duncan
Ambrose and Emrys

ObjectionSustained · 19/05/2022 09:35

Your poor children.

Sodthatforagameofsoldiers · 19/05/2022 10:00

I think Ludovic is my favourite of the suggestions so far.

I wanted it for our baby but we know one and DH thought it was strange to use it when we have a friend with the same name.

Daphodils · 19/05/2022 12:05

I really like the name Nectar, very unusual, and it goes so well with Ambrose.

Or Hector?

ChnandlerBong · 19/05/2022 12:36

thing is if you call him Ambrose but he's known as Bram he's going to spend his whole life explaining that?

They are 2 different names which have 2 different initials. If you like Bram then go with Bram? It's a much stronger name than Ambrose

pinklavenders · 19/05/2022 12:42

DBro is Ambrose. Largely know as Ambrose or Brose.

I know an Ambrose too. He's generally known by his full name - it's easy enough to say!!
