My DH is adamant on using a name i quite frankly find hideous

The name is

Drumroll

Prudence Sunita

i would be more open to the idea, if the name what honouring a family member or we even had any link to India

But we dont, and he wont budge, any suggestions for names he may be more open to ?????????

please help,

-Michelle xxx

He's bullying you into a name you don't like and you're considering registering the baby without him
You have bigger problems than a name

Regularsizedrudy · 17/05/2022 11:41

Margot nova sounds like a robot they would send to take pics of mars. Prudence and sunita are both fine on their own but don’t go together at all

tiredanddangerous · 17/05/2022 11:42

Prudence is isn't too bad - any change it could grow on you? Bit strange to pair it with such a different middle name though.

fuckoffImcounting · 17/05/2022 11:48

You are carrying and birthing this child - he has no right to first dibs at names - tell him to get to fuck.

i think Sunita is more likely to grow on me than Prudence but it feels wrong for me to use a name of a different origin

Margot Prudence sort of works to me, then you both have an input.

FolornLawn · 17/05/2022 11:48

Wait, in all the hullaballoo about Prudence Sunita did I see a mention of JANINE?! I can only think the horror of Prudence Sunita has warped your mind, or you're giving birth in 1972.

What sort of vibe are your other kids' names, OP?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 17/05/2022 11:50

What about Primrose?

at the moment i think any names better than Prudence Sunita

MumstedInadequate · 17/05/2022 11:56

Who's surname will the baby have? Since the child will be mainly known throughout their life as firstname surname , IMO if the child is getting the father's surname then the mother gets the final vote on first name.

If you're going with your surname then it's more equal IMO. And no, I'm not going to apologise for biasing the woman with this set of rules. We get the shitty end of almost everything, and by growing and birthing the child we deserve more than 50% say in its name...especially since the father can and often does disappear off at a minute's notice, whereas its very unusual indeed for a woman to.

I'm not keen on Margot Nova to be fair. Sounds a bit like a city in Eastern Europe

Sounds like a cheap sparkling wine to me!

I like Prudence!
But could have Constance? Or Cadence?
Anita instead of Sunita?

Prudence constance is awful

RuthW · 17/05/2022 12:05

Which bit don't you like?

I like Prudence but not Sinita.

when me and my husband got married so our child wil have his surname

Back to the drawing board. If you won’t agree then he can’t have it.

Tell him you need to work together to pick one name, just one that you can both happily settle on.

For what it’s worth I don’t like Prudence and Sunita doesn’t go with it anyway on top of being inappropriate.

AuntieStella · 17/05/2022 12:08

DeflatedBeachball · 17/05/2022 11:11

he has a grandma called Janine which i thinks alright and alot better than Pruedence

Try turning Janine into Janita and seeing if that could be the middle name?

What other names do you like as well as Margot?

Some more to think about:

Patience or Patricia, Siouxie but make that Susannah on the BC, Honor/Honoria, Constance, Cassie, Lola, Violet, Imogen, Naomi, Rosa

ive tried suggesting that but he says because i have 3 kids from a previous relationship and he has 2 that he should get to chose this ones name

leftistbimbo · 17/05/2022 12:14

What about Primrose? somewhat similar but prettier in my opinion, and bit more scope for nicknames

saraclara · 17/05/2022 12:14

When he pushes a self grown human out of a vagina or via surgery then he can bestow whatever hideous name he wants onto them

I hate it when this bollocks is trotted out on MN. It's not as though men have a choice over who gives birth to their child. But according to many MNers, by not stepping up and having a uterus, it they're denied any rights or opinions.

knittingaddict · 17/05/2022 12:15

Name change fail op?

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 17/05/2022 12:16

So he's a fan of early 2000s TV programmes then? Prudence was played by Shannon Doherty in Charmed and Sunita was one of the contestants on Big Brother, both around the same time.
That might be where to look for names he'll like? Piper, Phoebe, Paige? Shannon?
