I love the name Sasha and wondered what other people thought of it. Would you think a Sasha was a boy or a girl? Do you associate Sasha with anyone in particular?

A bloke in a mankini

YukoandHiro · 03/03/2022 19:12

I know both male and female Sashas. They all suit their name

YukoandHiro · 03/03/2022 19:13

Although I thought for a boy it's usually spelled Sacha

theveryhungrycatapillar · 03/03/2022 19:13

I think girl initially but wouldn't be surprised if I met a Sasha who was a boy. Actually I love that name for either it's gorgeous Smile

WhoppingBigBackside · 03/03/2022 19:15

Girl, but Sascha is a boy

Footballsundays6777 · 03/03/2022 19:16

A boy :-) short for Aleksander, Eastern European, not just Russian

SirChenjins · 03/03/2022 19:17

Baron Cohen (although I know he’s Sacha)

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 03/03/2022 19:18

A dog. A yellow lab.

Halllyup17 · 03/03/2022 19:20

My female cousin is called Sascha. I like it, but prefer it to be spelled Sasha. I've always liked Asher for a boy.

Sascha is German and mostly used for boys.

I wanted to call ds Sacha (French heritage). I find Sasha for a girl is like calling her Dave.

TenoringBehind · 03/03/2022 19:21

I think of it as a female Labrador’s name. But actually one of my (male) neighbours is called Sacha (pronounced Sasha) so I should think differently I suppose.

Synchrony · 03/03/2022 19:21

Russian boy or Baron Cohen.

SirenSays · 03/03/2022 19:21

Bully breed dogs

SpikeySmooth · 03/03/2022 19:23

Girl. I went to school with a Sashs in the 80s.

deadlanguage · 03/03/2022 19:23

I would think boy, and spoilt!

PyjamasOClock · 03/03/2022 19:24

Alexander - Sascha Zverev in particular (fab German tennis player) - all positive connotations.

Tinkhasflown · 03/03/2022 19:26

Girl.
Sasha the sorceress from Sofia the First!

Cotswoldmama · 03/03/2022 19:27

For me it's quite a posh girl name, a bit made in Chelsea.

CayrolBaaaskin · 03/03/2022 19:28

It’s a boys name - Russian short for Alexander

Honeyroar · 03/03/2022 19:31

I had a female friend at uni called Sasha.

yoshiblue · 03/03/2022 19:33

I have a female cousin Sasha and a friends son is Sasha. I like it for a boy in particular.

SouthParkCovid · 03/03/2022 19:38

Stripper

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/03/2022 19:38

For a girl Sasha has a 70s feel to me, like Amber and Natasha - I knew a posh one. I wouldn’t use it as a full girl’s name now, but OK short for Alexandra.

Prefer it as a boys short form of Alexander spelt traditionally as Sacha. I would call him Alexander though, Sacha is quite a specific flavour and he might not like it.

PurplePansy05 · 03/03/2022 19:40

It is a Slavic name, short for Alexander, most commonly. Adopted in Western languages and used as a standalone female name, rather tan a nn. I like it and think it works well for boys or girls.

windysocks · 03/03/2022 19:40

A French child's name
