I love the name Sasha and wondered what other people thought of it. Would you think a Sasha was a boy or a girl? Do you associate Sasha with anyone in particular?

A german shepherd dog.

TinaTurtle · 03/03/2022 17:55

Similar to Tara, I think, as both make cool names for either a boy or a girl.

I know an Alexander who is known as Sasha.

Ourlady · 03/03/2022 17:56

Distel

One of my favourite law professors was a man called Sasha. But I also worked with a very annoying female Sasha. I don't think I'd make any assumptions about the sex of the person based on the name.

Luna2 · 03/03/2022 17:56

Russian boy

@user1493494961

I know an Alexander who is known as Sasha.
Is that because it’s the Russian version of the name?
tintodeverano2 · 03/03/2022 17:57

My nans smelly old dog. Sorry!

becca3210 · 03/03/2022 17:58

I think of a girl. A pretty name

oishutup · 03/03/2022 17:59

I love the name Sasha! It was on the name list for my daughter.
But not unusual for boys either.

TitoMojito · 03/03/2022 18:00

Sasha from Holby City Grin but I do tend to view Sasha as a girl's name.

Dolallytats · 03/03/2022 18:00

My uncle's beautiful Red Setter dog (girl)from when I was a kid. I do know an adult male Sasha, but always thought of it as a girl's name before I met him.

000YourMum000 · 03/03/2022 18:01

Makes me think of the kid in Enemy at the Gate 😥

SummaLuvin · 03/03/2022 18:02

I view it like Alex, a completely unisex name. But in my life I have known/been aware of more male Sashas, so that is probably my very first instinct.

cheesychipsfan · 03/03/2022 18:02

@ThymePoultice yep it's grim. My post was sarcasm to another post who said it was chavvy Wink

Blueuggboots · 03/03/2022 18:03

I had a friend who called her son Sasha as her parent's were of Russian descent, but we did warn her it is very much seen as a girl's name in the U.K.

ThymePoultice · 03/03/2022 18:05

It’s the Russian diminutive. So in Russia it would be Alexander for formal and Sasha informally.

Same as Mikhail/Misha, Maria/Masha, Pavel/Pasha, Alexandra/Shura, Natalia/Natasha or Dimitri/Dima.

CourtRand · 03/03/2022 18:05

Brats dolls or Russian boys

ThymePoultice · 03/03/2022 18:06

Sorry it was actually the one with the c word I was objecting to. Confused myself after seeing yours.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 03/03/2022 18:07

I think of a girl I was friendly with at primary school - so fond memories of 1980s Dublin.

We really make ourselves look little englanders when we do that.

See also the video for Elton John’s “Nikita”. Nikita is always a male name but they cast it as a stunning female model, maybe partly for closet reasons, I dunno.

merrymouse · 03/03/2022 18:09

Sasha dolls

Cakey46 · 03/03/2022 18:09

A beautiful German Shepherd.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 03/03/2022 18:11

I think Russia.

waltthedog · 03/03/2022 18:13

I think of Beyoncé’s alter ego Sasha Fierce. It’s a lovely name though!
