Mine wouldn't, I don't think.

It's Belinda, but I go by variations of it. Was very popular in Australia in the 70's. But I can't remember the last time I heard of a baby named Belinda.

Do you have a nice timeless name or a dated one like mine?

I don't think mine was popular at the time and hasn't been since! Tammie!

Hyenaormeercat · 04/02/2022 22:11

Very 50s and early 60s name in the cohort with Jackie, Christine, Gillian, Sharon and Tracey ...can't see it coming back anytime soon..

Tammie Terrell was an amazing singer and doesn't have the acclaim she deserves. A great namesake!
CharlieBoo · 04/02/2022 22:31

I think mine would work.. (Lucy) but I wouldn’t choose it myself for a baby

GuiltyPleasure · 04/02/2022 22:36

My name hasn't ever been popular, but neither is it outlandish. I've actually seen it suggested as a nice name on these boards. I don't think it defines me by age. It was apparently a made up name from some 18th century author. There's a few of us around, but it's unusual enough that I always comment if I meet another one of me! I hate the usual diminutives of my name, but generally people only call me by my initial, which is sort of a nickname, but I like it, more than my actual name.

SpikeySmooth · 04/02/2022 22:37

1970s popular name. Not many of us around now, but foreign takes on it are more popular. In fact, when I went to visit my DH's rellies in Italy, I was called the Italian version and I preferred it.

Mine is biblical and was never hugely popular in the UK. At 43 I'm the youngest person I've ever met with my name. If I Google my full name, I get pages of Jewish female academics in their 60s, which is kind of cool and great for my own Internet anonymity!

Belinda is a really lovely name, btw.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 04/02/2022 22:51

Yes mine would. It's a Disney Princess, but missing a letter

LosingMySh1t · 04/02/2022 22:57

My name is a super 80's name. I vant imagine a baby called it.

BurntToastAgain · 04/02/2022 22:59

No. Mine is one of those names that comes up very quickly and repeatedly on ‘names that should never come back’ threads. Tbh, it’s a dreadful name.

Laureatus · 04/02/2022 23:02

Yup, it's a 'classic' but people seem to mention it most as a middle name which is such a shame.

Mediocrates · 04/02/2022 23:04

Mine is so dated, but not in a granny chic way. It would be so odd to think of a baby being given my name!

Thisbastardcomputer · 04/02/2022 23:32

Mine is Alison but was felicity for a few days but mother changed her mind.

I stood out like a sore thumb in a school full of Mary's, Maria's, Margaret's and Catherine's.

It got very popular later on, but don't hear of children being called Alison.

The family call me Alice.

PaddleBoardingMomma · 05/02/2022 00:32

@NoResolutionsHere

My name was so popular in the 80s, there were at least 10 I can think of in my year at school, it's Catherine. It's quite old fashioned really, I don't think it works as a baby name now, it doesn't even make the top 500 on some most popular baby names lists. I do really like my name though, it's never offended me.
I named my baby Catherine when she was born in august so I hope it works 🤣

And my 5 year old is Allyson... this thread isn't going well for me 🤣

Inderella? Snow Whit? Rapunze? Pocahonta?

Why is this so hard for me to figure out!

Chichimcgee · 05/02/2022 00:37

Mines not unusual but not popular, a few actresses/celebs with the name but I’d never come across another one (I’m mid thirties), it’s quite harsh sounding and doesn’t roll off the tongue easily. Anyway, I was waiting for my son at the school gates and heard someone shout my name, her daughter has the same name, she must be about 10 and doesn’t like it, wants to be a Lily like the rest of the school. Her mum wanted me to tell her how great it is to have an uncommon name, I didn’t like to say I’d spent my childhood wanting to be a Sarah lol
I don’t think my name will ever be nice 🙈

Chichimcgee · 05/02/2022 00:38

I think Jasmin!!

Od130990 · 05/02/2022 00:44

I haven't heard of a child called Maria since 80's undecided if I even like it still to this day 😂

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 05/02/2022 01:07
@babyjellyfish if it didn't happen quite so often, it would be quite funny, but I'm a grown adult, often speaking to other grown adults, and usually in a fairly professional context, so think that's why it's so annoying.
I’d probably sing the West Side Story song at you instead Wink

Joking I have a very popular in the 70s name that is also a song and I hate when people sing it at me!

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 05/02/2022 01:09

I like it though but I haven’t heard of any babies called it! But I think would be okay ….

You'd think correct 🤣 didn't really leave much to the imagination there did I?
AllThingsServeTheBeam · 05/02/2022 01:22

@PaddleBoardingMomma I had a pet tiger

bxbynxmelxver4 · 05/02/2022 03:02

Yes it's extremely popular at the moment

Lemonweightloss · 05/02/2022 12:35

@PaddleBoardingMomma, your dds have beautiful names.
