Would your own name work as a baby name now?

Mine wouldn't, I don't think.

It's Belinda, but I go by variations of it. Was very popular in Australia in the 70's. But I can't remember the last time I heard of a baby named Belinda.

Do you have a nice timeless name or a dated one like mine?

@Dustyblue my daughter will be calling her daughter Belinda as her partner's mum was Belinda and sadly died. It's a really nice name Smile

I've heard mine used in playgrounds etc recently and it was almost taken aback to here it in that context. Like hearing it for the first time.

No, mine's very dated. Only women I know called it are in the late 50's - 70 age range. It's a character from a children's book

It’s Lucy.

Having barely met any other Lucy’s my entire life, I’m suddenly seeing a lot more little Lucy’s around.

MN tends to like my name, from threads I’ve seen- though someone called it “wet” once. 😂

I work with a Lucy....she’s 48 and very glamorous 😃

My parents picked my name because they thought it was timeless and classic. It's now widely regarded as boring and dated! It's one of the ones already mentioned upthread.

You're reminded me of a spooky book that I loved as a child called 'Come Back, Lucy'. It featured an evil Victorian ghost child. Alice was the evil one though! Grin

My name is Welsh and fairly unusual (apart from being a song from the 70s). It is always mentioned on MN when people are looking for Welsh girls names as it's one of the easier to spell/pronounce ones, but I don't personally know of anyone under 30 with the name (although maybe there's loads of them running about in Wales Grin.

My name was so rare when I was growing up I used to get upset I could never get any of the personalised decorations / bracelets / tat when you go on holiday. Now it's EVERYWHERE. I'm often turning around to someone calling me and then realise they're nothing to do with me and talking to their kid and not me.

Mine's a popular 70s name and growing up there were plenty of us - 4 girls with this name in the same year group at secondary school. I'm yet to meet a young person/child with this name these days. There are a few European versions of it and it sounds lovely with a 'a' at the end or a silent 'e' at the end to make it more French sounding.
