Husband's awful name suggestions!

My husband's absolutely set on several absolutely awful names! I'm trying to convince him otherwise, but MIL and even some of my family are on his side. Don't know gender.
Please tell me I'm not going crazy, these names are awful
Indy
Jolene
Cosmo
Estella
Trisha
Kiana
Aliesha
Chastity

I honestly fear a child named any of those would be absolutely bullied. Any advice?

I quite like an Estela. But other than that they're pretty completely terrible. I went to school with a Jolene and even a bunch of six year olds more than 20 years after that song was released knew it well enough to make her life miserable with it.

Cosmo is the best, Estelle passable. The rest absolutely not.

Estella and Cosmo (for a boy) are lovely names. Don't like the others at all.

God the bullying that could happen with Jolene, if her beauty is not beyond compare…😂

And chastity is as creepy as it gets.

Estrella is a really popular beer. It’s like calling her carlsberg..😃

Indy- best of a bad bunch
Jolene- Dolly Parton
Cosmo- boys name
Estella- think there's several baddy Estellas in Victorian literature
Trisha- tv show agony aunt.
Kiana- looks like a Disney name
Aliesha- will never be spelt correctly
Chastity- awful

I don’t think yours are much better than some of his tbh - Diana and Jane are horrendous

Has he been watching dodgy daytime TV shows? They all sound like names from nasty soaps.

Stand your ground!!

I think your suggested names are hugely dull but your DH is surely taking the piss?

I love Estella but the rest are...not good.

Cosmo is obviously a boy's name, Trisha is a GP practice manager with a fondness for bangles, and Jolene would be begging her nursery gal pals to not steal away her little male friends.

Cosmo is very cool

He might be ahead of his time with some of those. Makes a nice change from Emily, Grace etc

I wouldn't discuss names with MIL before birth, recipe for disaster!

DH and I made separate lists that we didn't discuss, then a month or so before due date we compared and deleted any of the other's list that were definite no-nos. Then debated the remainder.

Indy, Jolene, Cosmo, Estella would be just about tolerable, the rest are awful.

Cosima? Estella is nice.

Cosmo is fine (for a boy). Not fond of it myself but I've heard that Cosima is becoming quite popular for girls.

Estella is a bit wet but OK. Prefer Stella.

Joelle has the same kind of vibe as Jolene but I much prefer it.

Lots of Kianas round here. Not a name I'd chose but it's ok. Aliesha similarly - I've met a few nice Alieshas so would be predisposed to like an Aliesha.

Trisha is awful. Has a Cilla vibe to it.

Chastity is just dreadful. If you're going to pick a virtue name, choose a different virtue.

I like Estella, but none of his others.

I dislike all of them but your child wouldn't be bullied. Kids aren't bullied over their names really anymore.

Cosmo is a lovely name (for boys!)

Goldbar · 18/01/2022 14:33

Of your girls' names, I like Nell but not keen on the others. Your boys' names are fine but very safe and a bit dull.

Agreed. May is nice though.

I know an Indie (obviously spelt differently to your list), that's not bad & neither is Estella or Jolene.

Not sure about the others.

Looking for middle ground- Alicia? Janine?
