Disaster - I need a new girl's name!

The name I had tucked away as my favourite for 2nd DD has been flagrantly stolen by my cousin, so now I can't use it!

(I'm just kidding, it's not a disaster, and you can't "steal" a name, I know!)

DD is Orla, and something with an Irish feel would be lovely, due to family background. Also want to avoid a "sh" sound due to surname, and no "n"s for the same reason.

Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Unless you see your cousin daily or the kids are going to the same school I'd still use the name 🤷🏼‍♀️

Whatthefuck3456 · 15/01/2022 10:47

Pippa
Luna

LadyGAgain · 15/01/2022 11:06

Maeva

MrsBungle · 15/01/2022 11:14

I have an Orla. Had I had another girl she would have been Niamh or Maeve. I had a boy though!

HopefulFrostie · 15/01/2022 13:20

I think Maeve is my favourite. I also like Cara, Dara, and Tara Grin

I don't want to use the same name, it wouldn't feel right; but I now have some lovely alternatives that I'd be very happy to use instead!

Saoirse - I love that name.

HaroldMeeker · 15/01/2022 13:24

Morven
Maeve
Erin
Theresa or Therese

DuneFan · 15/01/2022 13:31

Just bear in mind that Dara is often used as a man's name in Ireland. As in Dara O'briain. Not sure whether it's often used for girls.

SwedishEdith · 15/01/2022 13:34

Tara is gorgeous.

UserBot314159 · 15/01/2022 13:36

Love the suggestion of Tara

That transcends popularity trends. Fiadh is lovely but if that was the name your cousin got to use first, she did you a favour. It's too popular.

Fraoch (heather) is nice imo
Siún is lovely too.

@RememberToLookUp

Oh just read the full thread Grin. Clodagh already mentioned multiple times. It’s a nice name, though, and I think it ‘goes’ with Orla.
Clodagh having a revival right now
Strokethefurrywall · 15/01/2022 13:45

Saoirse

CliffsofMohair · 15/01/2022 13:46

Darragh - only ever boy
Dara/Daire - used for both

WeAreTheHeroes · 15/01/2022 13:49

Not Saoirse after what the OP has said about sounds that don't go with their surname.

RedRobin100 · 15/01/2022 13:58

I like Dara for a girl also. Also Derry. But OH won’t have them 🙄

Woofwoofbarkbark · 15/01/2022 14:02

Una is my favourite name ever. Wished I'd used it!

MatildaJayne · 15/01/2022 14:08

Maeve goes beautifully with Orla. Not too matchy matchy without another a ending and a lovely name in its own right.

Maeve, Ciara, Cara.

Orla and Cara is lovely, same letters, yet so different

IrishMamaMia · 15/01/2022 14:14

Love Orla and Maeve. Elegant and timeless.
My friend's sister is Siofra. Pronounced Shee-fra which means fairy. I think it would make such a cute younger sister name!
