Disaster - I need a new girl's name!

The name I had tucked away as my favourite for 2nd DD has been flagrantly stolen by my cousin, so now I can't use it!

(I'm just kidding, it's not a disaster, and you can't "steal" a name, I know!)

DD is Orla, and something with an Irish feel would be lovely, due to family background. Also want to avoid a "sh" sound due to surname, and no "n"s for the same reason.

Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

I love Ríona and Méabh/Maeve. Cara is nice too

Tilltheend99 · 15/01/2022 08:30

@Irishmom7

Orla is a lovely name.

Niamh
Maeve
Alva
Aoife
Réiltín
Rachel
Beibhinn
Roisin (sh sound in the middle, but could work!)
Fiadh
Oona
Sadbh

Oona would be cute paired with Orla.
FlamingoQueen · 15/01/2022 08:32

Sorcha

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 15/01/2022 08:34

Una or Emer

scatteredglitter · 15/01/2022 08:35

Aoibh (Eve)

Maeve

Dara (for a girl )

HopefulFrostie · 15/01/2022 08:45

Oh these are great! Some I'd considered already but you've reinforced for me that they're lovely names:

Maeve
Cara
Fia (I'd use the anglicised version as we're in England)

Maeve is lovely

AliceMcK · 15/01/2022 08:50

Orla would have been my next if I’d had another. I always wanted Imelda but DH vetoed it. I know it’s not traditionally Irish but there are several Imelda's in my Irish family.

Orla and Tara love love love
Orla and Fionnuala love this too
Would Orla and Oona (Una) be too much?
Orla and Imelda
Orla and Majella
Orla and Mairead

What was the name your cousin used?

Why can’t you use it? Lots of my cousins have the same names.

RussianSpy101 · 15/01/2022 08:57

@UserError012345 it’s Eva with an F. Eefa

ESGdance · 15/01/2022 08:57

So that would mean sisters / siblings using the same name for their children - cousins is very far removed.,
AngelinaFibres · 15/01/2022 08:59

@SeanChailleach

Maeve goes best I think.
Orla and Maeve. That's lovely
Kione · 15/01/2022 09:13

I actually named my children after my cousins, not deliberately but knowing how similar they are, with slight difference to the names but same shortened nicknames. It's never been a problem.

LavenderRosemary · 15/01/2022 09:14

Maeve is lovely.

WeaversDivas · 15/01/2022 09:22

Dervla

rainbowstardrops · 15/01/2022 10:04

I really like Maeve and it goes nicely with Orla.
Why not just use your original name though?

pinkyredrose · 15/01/2022 10:06

Just use the name you want, what's the problem if they have the same name?

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 15/01/2022 10:09

@FlexibleWorkingDenied

Caoimhe
Am I right in thinking this is pronounced 'Queefa' or have I got that totally wrong?
SeanChailleach · 15/01/2022 10:13

Caoimhe is Queeva or Keeva

TheDuchessOfMN · 15/01/2022 10:16

Clodagh is beautiful, but is it too similar sounding to Orla?

Orla and Clodagh ❤️

BabyLove22 · 15/01/2022 10:22

Bronagh is a firm fave of mine

RememberToLookUp · 15/01/2022 10:23

Love Maeve.

Clodagh?

RememberToLookUp · 15/01/2022 10:24

Oh just read the full thread Grin. Clodagh already mentioned multiple times. It’s a nice name, though, and I think it ‘goes’ with Orla.
