Help! We can't name our baby boy. We've been disagreeing about this for months now, and he's finally here and we're still no closer.
So can I turn it over to you, wise Mumsnetters? To offer up your best suggestions and help us stop referring to him as 'the baby'.
Ideally we don't want any royal names, surnames as names, or American popular names like Grayson.
Surname is Chipp.
Thank you!

I love Elliot the most. Dislike Rafferty and Felix

BahBumbug · 31/12/2021 13:11

Johnnie
Finn
Jimmy
Matty
Jay
Wilf
Heath

KnottyKnitting · 31/12/2021 13:19

I like the name Felix but it doesn't flow well with your surname ( the "x" sound followed by "Ch".)

Not keen on Rafferty

Christian is ok but prefer Christopher
Cameron and Elliot are nice

The one I like the most is Sebastian!

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 31/12/2021 13:24

@namethisbeaut

Thank you all so much! Some fantastic suggestions. Smile We have our short list of favourites. They are....

Felix Chipp
Cameron Chipp
Elliot Chipp
Christian Chipp
Raffetty Chipp
Sebastian Chipp

What do you like/dislike???

Christian will be shortened to Chris Chipp which I'm not a huge fan of and I think Felix is too close to "Fishn" when you say it fast.

The rest work really well I think even shortened.

RainbowDrops91 · 31/12/2021 13:43

Orson ❤️ or Zachary ❤️

pollyparrot45 · 31/12/2021 13:45

Felix

2022willbebetter · 31/12/2021 13:48

I'm not sure about the way the x in Felix runs in the Chipp.

Sebastian or Elliot are my favourites from your list

Happenchance · 31/12/2021 15:24

I like Cameron, Raffetty and Sebastian.

deadlanguage · 31/12/2021 15:47

Felix! Or Sebastian.
I don’t like Rafferty or Cameron, don’t think Christian goes with your surname, and Elliott is a bit meh.

RainbowDrops91 · 31/12/2021 15:52

Felix is an awesome name! Sebastian's also cute, little Seb! ❤️

GU24Mum · 31/12/2021 16:04

I'd definitely go for something with at least two syllables (or one but not a hard ending name) as your surname is quite short sounding. If it's a long name but you'd shorten it, I'd look at how that sounds too : eg Nathaniel Chipp is OK but Nat Chipp not so good.

I have a December boy who I took a while to name and it took ages to stop calling him "The Baby"!

SummerLew · 31/12/2021 17:28

Sebastian Chipp

Fifipop185 · 31/12/2021 23:07

Felix or Elliott

Congrats on your gorgeous baby boy OP.

RockinHorseShit · 01/01/2022 00:34

I know a teen Christian who goes by Tian as a nn, that still works well with Chipp.

Elliot is less likely to be shortened, but the one I know who uses a nn goes by Eli, which again sounds fine with Chipp.

The others shorten to single syllable NNs, which don't work quite so well with your surname, so those 2 are my favourites

wishing3 · 01/01/2022 00:37

So cute! I thought Henry Chipp.

wizzler · 01/01/2022 00:47

My first thought was Sebastian

Also like Jonathan, Benedict and Elijah

Ikeameatballs · 01/01/2022 00:51

I like Elliot best out of your shortlist in terms of how it works with your whole name.

You really need to think about likely shortenings and for example I love Sebastian but don’t like Seb Chipp.

sleepykits · 01/01/2022 00:53

Christian
Richard
Alexander

polkadotllama · 01/01/2022 01:15

When I seen his face I instantly thought Frederick/Freddie

I think Elliot suits him too

Ceramide · 01/01/2022 01:25

Rafferty would be my pick from your shortlist.

Benjamin
Caspar
Raymond
Angus
Wilbur
Theodore
Jasper

Biscuitsneeded · 01/01/2022 01:35

He's a Billy.

Snorkmaidenn · 01/01/2022 01:46

@Coughsyrup

Benjamin Chipp!
My favourite also.

You have to think of how his name will sit when he is 50.

Some names are too prissy for older men. Ben is a lovely manly name .

Lorw · 01/01/2022 02:02

I liked the suggestion of Billy that another poster had said 😁

Ruthietuthie · 01/01/2022 02:26

He looks like an Edward. Or an Elliot. Or possibly an Arlo. Edward Arlo Chipp.

Ruthietuthie · 01/01/2022 02:27

I also love Felix or Sebastian from your list.
