Do you prefer Ivy or Winter for a girl?

Dd2 is due January and agreeing on a name has become difficult! Dh has vetoed all my suggestions and these are the only two names left.
One is an absolute love of mine and the other is dh’s favourite. What would you go for?

Another vote for Winter. Ivy to me brings to mind someone in their 70s+

changing221 · 09/12/2021 15:39

Winter.

It was a shortlist name for my DD1.

BorderlineHappy · 09/12/2021 15:44

Winter is gorgeous,Ivy reminds me of your one from Coronation Street.( Showing my age there)

Gregsprinkles · 09/12/2021 15:44

I think Ivy Winter sounds better than the other way round. To me, Winter Ivy sounds like a specific plant species (but then I did used to be a gardener!)

RandomUsernameHere · 09/12/2021 15:50

Winter, it's a lovely name

SequinsandStiIettos · 09/12/2021 15:50

Winter
I haven't ever taught one and think it's lovely
Or January

Prefer Holly to Ivy but not with Winter
Winter Ivy sounds fine

Dillydollydingdong · 09/12/2021 15:52

Not winter. How about Noelle?

Anotherhill · 09/12/2021 15:53

I don’t see Winter as a name, so Ivy for me.

LimeTreeGrove · 09/12/2021 15:56

They're both nice but I'd prefer to be called Ivy as it's less unusual

2orangey · 09/12/2021 16:00

Ivy

hivemindneeded · 09/12/2021 16:00

I prefer Holly, Robin or Noelle. But Ivy is OK. I'm not so keen on Winter. She might get it shortened to Winnie.

celestebellman · 09/12/2021 16:01

Ivy by a million miles. Winter Ivy sounds like an air freshener. Don't really like Winter as a name (though I do like Autumn!)

Thegirlhasnamechanged · 09/12/2021 16:06

I like Ivy best

I agree with a PP than Winter Ivy reminds me of a seasonal air freshener name. Ivy Winters is a well known drag queen (has been on drag race) which is the reason I clicked on this thread in the first place 😅

Or a wreath.

I can't understand the attraction of Winter as a name... cold and damp. Confused

gogohm · 09/12/2021 16:06

Ivy, winter is a season

hiptobeasquare · 09/12/2021 16:08

I like both!
Don't go for Ivy Winter though, as Ivy Winters is a drag queen. Grin

Underthestairsbears · 09/12/2021 16:09

I prefer Winter. Ivy is super popular here and always makes me think of Ivy Tilsley 😄

foreverandalways · 09/12/2021 16:10

Ivy

Borris · 09/12/2021 16:12

Ivy. I don’t see winter as a name

AudTheDeepMinded · 09/12/2021 16:15

No to Winter as a first name for me personally, sounds most odd and would get shortened to Winnie. I know a girl born on 24th December called Eve, which I think is lovely! I know a few Ivys and fewer Hollys and one Amaryllis!

SoupDragon · 09/12/2021 16:17

Ivy.

Winter is bloody miserable!

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 09/12/2021 16:18

Ivvvvvvyy Winterrrrsssss
She's a drag queen

Sonata13 · 09/12/2021 16:19

Winter. Love it.

frogsbreath · 09/12/2021 16:20

Ivy, Winter as middle name

thehippietothehiphop · 09/12/2021 16:24

I love the name Winter!

Not so much Winter Ivy, but then people don’t use their second names much
