DH can only think of one name to suggest and I don’t like it

Booked for an ELCS just over a week before Xmas. We already have a DD and are expecting a DS this time but finding boys names so much harder! DH is being irritatingly chilled about making a short list and although I have several names on my list I’m not sure if any of them are quite right… Opinions and any other suggestions please?

My list:
Nicholas (but is it too cheesy for a baby born just before Xmas?)
Benjamin (not sure if I like the “jam” in the middle but I guess he’d get Ben most of the time)
Arthur (probably too popular)
Oscar (also probably too popular but might be my current top choice anyway)
Dylan (worried people will assume we have strong feelings about Bob Dylan)

DH’s list:
Rory (I’m not a fan and would mean baby has the same first initial as DD)
Claims he would consider any of the names on my list except maybe not Nicholas but I suspect he’s just trying to shut me up Blush

Nicholas
is it too cheesy for a baby born just before Xmas? It's fine. He'll be Nick or Nico
Benjamin (not sure if I like the “jam” in the middle but I guess he’d get Ben most of the time)
It's more Benj-uhmin
Arthur (probably too popular) - too popular for me
Oscar (also probably too popular but might be my current top choice anyway) - not keen
Dylan (worried people will assume we have strong feelings about Bob Dylan) - really dislike it. It's ok on middle aged Welsh speakers, pronounced DULL-ann but not Dillun

DH’s list:
Rory (I’m not a fan and would mean baby has the same first initial as DD)

Fine but R names are very popular Roman, Rowan, Reuben, Rory etc merge into one .
Rory is a pig of a name if you can't say R and lots of little children can't

AuntDympna · 10/11/2021 14:43

Dylan it is then!

spiderlight · 10/11/2021 14:50

What about Benedict, if you're not sure about Benjamin? I've never met a Ben I didn't like so I might be biased! I really like Dylan and Oscar too.

GrandOld · 10/11/2021 16:10

Oscar is no longer as popular as it once was. I really like it.

Harris
Tobias
Leon

WaitinginVain · 10/11/2021 16:16

I'm with your DH and like Rory, sorry.

Of your own list I would choose Dylan. Oscar is OK and I really don't like the rest.

thewhatsit · 10/11/2021 17:06

You don’t say “jam” in Benjamin though do you? It’s said more like Ben-juh-min.

Other than Dylan, which I’ve never liked, I like all your names and also Rory too which I think is a fantastic name. If you don’t like it though then you have a right to veto. Nicholas is a good compromise.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 10/11/2021 17:20

Not keen on Dylan. Knew a lovely lad named Declan. Would that be an alternative?
Known some nice kids named Rory.
Like Oscar.
How about -
Toby
James
Peter
Thomas

AnonyMum21 · 10/11/2021 17:27

I like all of your potential names
Comments:

Dylan - I don’t think people will associate with Bob Dylan at all (confused why you would think that? He’s not current…)
Nicolas - Xmas connection didn’t even occur to me
HTH

finallychangedmyusername · 10/11/2021 17:43

I like all your names, and your DH's too. Nicholas is a really great name, it was on my list too. Oscar as a middle name. Nicholas Oscar - gorgeous! Or even Nicholas Rory Oscar would work.

VanillaAndOrange · 10/11/2021 20:15

I have to admit I love Rory but I would be put off by the same initials thing.

All the names on your list are nice, but I like Benjamin and Arthur the most.

hotmeatymilk · 10/11/2021 20:16

Rory is awful! Of your list, Arthur is lovely and feels just unusual enough, but not wacky.

AliasGrape · 10/11/2021 20:33

I don’t like Rory

Nicholas is lovely and nothing cheesy about it really, the Christmas connection didn’t particularly jump out at me
Benjamin - like it, I prefer Benedict though which would solve the jam issue
Arthur - I like it, it is very popular like you say though, wouldn’t necessarily put me off though
Oscar - I don’t love it but if it’s your favourite and your DH would consider it I wouldn’t let popularity put you off. Casper has a similar feel if you wanted an alternative?
Dylan - I don’t think of Bob Dylan but it seems a bit 90s to me for some reason

Other ones that were on our list (we had a dd in the end)
Alexander
Vincent
Owen
Blake
Michael
Gabriel (Gabe)
Nathaniel (Nate)

Santastuckincustoms · 10/11/2021 20:35

Dave

GoodnightGrandma · 10/11/2021 20:37

I don’t like Nicholas - Nicky.
What about Benedict - Ben ?

TatianaBis · 10/11/2021 20:41

Love Rory, sorry.

Onlinedilema · 10/11/2021 20:44

Of go with Benjamin. You don't say it as jam. It's more Benj-a-min.
It's more classical any of the others. I'm not keen on Rory and would told it out if your daughter has the same initial.

Mammyloveswine · 10/11/2021 21:07

I think Nicholas is lovely!

But I also like Joseph (it was going to be my Christmas baby's name but then our best man beat us to it!).

What about Sebastian? Nathanial? Gabriel?

Yogawankonobi · 10/11/2021 21:10

Rory is awful.

What about Robin for a R and Christmas name?

AreYouRightThereSkippy · 10/11/2021 21:12

Another one who loves Rory and isn't mad on your names (sorry).

If nor Rory, maybe Benjamin or Nicholas.

GlitteryFlaps · 10/11/2021 21:16

What’s your daughter’s name? Might be nice to make sure it works with her name (but with a different initial)

Lemonsyellow · 10/11/2021 21:16

I like Nicholas and Rory. Oscar is fine, if a little dated. Arthur is so common - I know loads - it puts me off. I like Dylan. Benjamin is fine, but I prefer Benedict.

LuluBlakey1 · 10/11/2021 21:21

My great grandad was christened Benjimen- he always got Jim.

BrutusMcDogface · 10/11/2021 21:21

I had a friend at school called Jam- nickname for Benjamin! Bloody loved him and his name! 😁

BrutusMcDogface · 10/11/2021 21:22

Haha, funny cross post @LuluBlakey1!

Bimblybomeyelash · 10/11/2021 21:29

Rory is a lovely name. But sadly I say it Worwree.

I like Benjamin and Benedict.
Nicholas makes me think knickerless.
What about:
Duncan
Daniel
Marcus
