DH can only think of one name to suggest and I don’t like it

Booked for an ELCS just over a week before Xmas. We already have a DD and are expecting a DS this time but finding boys names so much harder! DH is being irritatingly chilled about making a short list and although I have several names on my list I’m not sure if any of them are quite right… Opinions and any other suggestions please?

My list:
Nicholas (but is it too cheesy for a baby born just before Xmas?)
Benjamin (not sure if I like the “jam” in the middle but I guess he’d get Ben most of the time)
Arthur (probably too popular)
Oscar (also probably too popular but might be my current top choice anyway)
Dylan (worried people will assume we have strong feelings about Bob Dylan)

DH’s list:
Rory (I’m not a fan and would mean baby has the same first initial as DD)
Claims he would consider any of the names on my list except maybe not Nicholas but I suspect he’s just trying to shut me up Blush

SpiderinaWingMirror · 10/11/2021 22:50

All of our 3 daughters were going to be Rory.
We have a Westie called Rory instead!

JessyCarr · 10/11/2021 22:54

I love Nicholas - also pp’s suggestion of Caspar which is nice for a Christmas baby.

Wowserme · 10/11/2021 22:55

How about Willem, Jude or Archie? All would go well with Rose 🌹

Ducksurprise · 10/11/2021 23:00

Elliott?

Do like Casper.

emma342 · 11/11/2021 01:49

I like Oscar best from your list.

I don't like Rory as a name, however sounds like Rowan which is a great name. If you like Rowan maybe suggest that, if your husband is insistent on Rory?

Lockdownbear · 11/11/2021 01:59

@Limer

Nicholas=Knickerless
OMG I shouldn't read MN in bed Grin that's really funny. And will stick in my head.
StartupRepair · 11/11/2021 02:07

Love Nicholas and Benjamin. Both go nicely with Rose. Have you considered:
Sebastian
David
Jonathan
If you are looking for classic and underused.

StartupRepair · 11/11/2021 02:07

Or Samuel.

KloppsTeeth · 11/11/2021 02:16

My exMIL ruined the name Nicholas for me. It is quite a well known Knock Knock joke

Knock knock
Who is there? Nicholas
Nicholas Who?

Nicholas girls shouldn’t climb trees.

Sorry!

1forAll74 · 11/11/2021 02:37

How on earth can other people help you to choose a baby name. And surely you must like at least a couple of names out of the hundreds out there. Don't dither about, just choose a couple, and stick with them.

IAAP · 11/11/2021 02:45

Well you DH needs more names on his list doesn’t he - he can’t just have one and that’s the one you choose - this needs to be a mutual conversation

PurBal · 11/11/2021 03:47

I like them all but Rory and Dylan. Also agree with Benedict instead of Benjamin. Oscar would probably be my favourite.

mathanxiety · 11/11/2021 04:12

I don't think you can have Rose and Rory. The two R-Os are too much.

I like the sound of Rose and Nicholas and Rose and Oscar too. I prefer Nicholas.
I don't think Dylan goes with Rose.
Benjamin and Arthur are a bit meh.

Suggestions:
Henry
Isaac
Thomas
Barnaby
Leo
Elliott
Lucas

Rose and Fred is a no-no.

garlictwist · 11/11/2021 04:25

I like all your names except Arthur.

But really it's not up to us, you and your husband need to agree. If you don't like Rory then that's off the table.

BurnedToast · 11/11/2021 04:53

Alexander

Rose and Alex.

VitalsStable · 11/11/2021 05:00

The same initials thing reminds me of Pauline Fowler, Michelle, Mark and Martin. Tell him you don't want to be a Pauline Fowler.

Gabriel )Gabe) is my fave at the mo but Nicholas is actually really lovely.

Beseen22 · 11/11/2021 05:05

We have a Ruaridh, similar to Rory but not so rhymey with Rosie. Admittedly Scottish though so more popular up here.

TheSandgroper · 11/11/2021 10:51

My brother and I have the same initial. It comes in handy if I need to sign for something of his.

TatianaBis · 11/11/2021 13:55

@DietCokeChipsAndMayo

You can’t have Rosy & Rory, imagine if you had a third you’d have to try to make it fit aswell or you’d have the awful situation of Rosy, Rory and … Sebastian!

I like a PPs suggestion of Gabriel, gorgeous classic name with a little nod to Xmas too

Rosie, Rory, Posy and Corey.
TatianaBis · 11/11/2021 13:59

Rory and Rose doesn’t bother me - I think it’s cute. I’d take it any day over Nicholas, Dylan or Arthur.

But ideally a non R name would be better.
