DH can only think of one name to suggest and I don’t like it

Booked for an ELCS just over a week before Xmas. We already have a DD and are expecting a DS this time but finding boys names so much harder! DH is being irritatingly chilled about making a short list and although I have several names on my list I’m not sure if any of them are quite right… Opinions and any other suggestions please?

My list:
Nicholas (but is it too cheesy for a baby born just before Xmas?)
Benjamin (not sure if I like the “jam” in the middle but I guess he’d get Ben most of the time)
Arthur (probably too popular)
Oscar (also probably too popular but might be my current top choice anyway)
Dylan (worried people will assume we have strong feelings about Bob Dylan)

DH’s list:
Rory (I’m not a fan and would mean baby has the same first initial as DD)
Claims he would consider any of the names on my list except maybe not Nicholas but I suspect he’s just trying to shut me up Blush

What about Ruddy? Not keen on Nicholas or Benjamin, like Ben though. Other names ok.

LadyCatStark · 10/11/2021 21:39

Your DH gets my vote sorry.

Nicholas is probably due a come back.
Benjamin is boring.
Arthur is ridiculously popular.
Dylan is OK and I wouldn’t think you were a Bob Dylan fan at all.

MargosKaftan · 10/11/2021 21:40

If you like Ben but not sure about the long name Benjamin, could you go for Benedict?

The Rory i know is lovely.

Glassofshloer · 10/11/2021 21:41

Oscar Rory. Lovely!

hotmeatymilk · 10/11/2021 21:46

Oscar Rory is terrible, come on. Say it out loud. I know people don’t really use middle names but it’ll come up occasionally: Oscarory, it all blurs into one vowely, rrrrr-y mess

FAQs · 10/11/2021 21:58

Rory and Dylan are both lovely names. Ben in boring.

Noooo it’s lovely. Rolls off the tongue. Better than Benjamin and Benedict etc, very wet.
beansprout55 · 10/11/2021 22:00

Nicholas is just perfect 🤩

Chip22 · 10/11/2021 22:01

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions everyone, it’s so nice to be having a discussion about this!

Hopefully not too outing, DD is Rose. So it’s not just the first initial that puts me off, it’s the rhyming with Rosy which she often gets called. Makes me think of a children’s clothing brand or cartoon or something!

Appreciate that Benjamin is not really pronounced with an obvious jam but its also the spelling… I know I’m being ridiculous!! Not a huge fan of Benedict.

Interesting that some people are saying Oscar is dated, I thought it was still in top 10 names.

Think I’m going off Dylan, just doesn’t seem quite right. Although good to know I’m being paranoid about Bob!

I’m going to push for Nicholas which is a name I’ve always had a soft spot for, or otherwise Oscar.

Keep the suggestions coming though please!

Dylan is lovely- I don't think anyone will be thinking about Bob haha
Rory is ok but very trendy (it's catapulted up the charts and feels quite overused now) and also I am so bored of all the popular Ro--- boy names that just all merge together.
Toby sounds a bit like Rory, how about Toby?
Tristan?

Chip22 · 10/11/2021 22:04

Have had a few family bereavements this year so middle name likely to be honouring one of them (just unsure which yet)

Rory is far too similar to Rosy you're right

Oscar and Nicholas are nice. How about Otto, Monty, Peter?

ivykaty44 · 10/11/2021 22:08

Michael
Simon
David

Mykittensmittens · 10/11/2021 22:10

Christian (kit)

Rose and Christian
Rosy and Kit
Rosy and Chris

All works okay?

Iamanicepersonreally · 10/11/2021 22:10

Rory is awful. Arthur isn’t much better. The rest are fune

whitehorsesdonotlie · 10/11/2021 22:16

Nicholas! And I love the Christmas connection.

He may be called Nicky when small but then Nic or Nick when older.

ZenNudist · 10/11/2021 22:16

How about Benedict instead?

Rory not nice

Your list is good. Prefer Nick and Ben as Nn for full names given here.

Ducksurprise · 10/11/2021 22:19

Not Benjamin, Rosie and Jim.

I don't like Nicholas, my accent makes it sound like knicker less.

I also don't know many small Oscars

What about Colin

tennischamp · 10/11/2021 22:23

Finn
Ellis
Edward
Jude
Liam
Fraser
Jacob
Matthew

cafedesreves · 10/11/2021 22:23

Ben (Benjamin) is great!

MsTSwift · 10/11/2021 22:25

I really like Nick. Underused and refreshing. Also like Rory. The others are over used wall paper names now sorry.

Limer · 10/11/2021 22:27

Nicholas=Knickerless

rubydoobydoo · 10/11/2021 22:28

I like Rory, but if your DD is Rosy it's a little too similar but could work!
Also like Nicholas and Oscar from your list - I agree you should push for Nicholas. There aren't many of them these days but it doesn't seem to have dated at all!

Glassofshloer · 10/11/2021 22:35

@Limer

Nicholas=Knickerless
Never made that connection before but now I will never unhear it 😱
DietCokeChipsAndMayo · 10/11/2021 22:35

You can’t have Rosy & Rory, imagine if you had a third you’d have to try to make it fit aswell or you’d have the awful situation of Rosy, Rory and … Sebastian!

I like a PPs suggestion of Gabriel, gorgeous classic name with a little nod to Xmas too
