Have you heard any recently that have made you do a double take? I know of two baby Jason's born in the last two years, the first of which I found very unusual, the second of which is making me think this is maybe coming back in vogue and I'm behind the times?

Ledasha is a myth with racist undertones

You're right. I just Googled and Snopes says it's not real

I teach a Honey-Blossom. But nothing will ever beat Tasty-Lee, a boy I taught at my last school (went by 'Tay')

I heard a Rebel in the park yesterday. I know Rebel Wilson has probably made the name more popular but it felt a bit mean for the kid.

Sweetpea84 · 16/10/2021 17:02

Loving Barrington. NN Barry or Bazza? My first car was called Barry (because he was white and he growledGrin) and I have had a soft spot for that name for 30 years! He died on a bridge in the middle of rush hour- always a rebel!

What about "Stop-Thief" that should turn a few heads when you call after your child in a supermarket.

Someone I know has just called their newborn Mavis.

Nillynally · 16/10/2021 18:09

@HowardNoir

I looked after a little boy called Dave- not short for David, a girl called Willie with her surname meaning a similar word, and my relative has twins called Claxon and Garibald.

I know lots of travellers with these names. They pass the names down through generations. Not usual for other communities I agree.

@WhatsWrongWithMyUsername

Stephen.

Nothing wrong with it. Just not what you expect a little boy to be called these days.

My sons middle name is Stephen and he wants us to call him Steve 😂, he's 8! Makes me laugh he's chosen that, but apparently there's a Steve in minecraft so I'm guessing that has something to do with it. My dad is called Stephen and my friend and I were discussing it a while back, found it funny "hello, meet baby Stephen". I do like the name, but as you say just not what you expect these days.
thewhatsit · 16/10/2021 18:26

I was a bit surprised recently by a Persephone but it’s not that out there really.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 16/10/2021 19:32

DS1 was at school with Adonis and DS2 at nursery with Demetrius (neither child was from the ethnic background associated with those names).
I have a couple of nephews with names that are so out there that to mention them would instantly out me. The older one particularly is a WTAF name.

Starlitexpress · 16/10/2021 19:42

Sherlock, quite a lot to live up to I feel!

Years ago met a baby Elvis, must be in their 30s now and I bet they still have to explain that it really is their name.

layby · 16/10/2021 19:46

There is a Clark in DD's class. I haven't heard that name too often.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 16/10/2021 19:51
