Have you heard any recently that have made you do a double take? I know of two baby Jason's born in the last two years, the first of which I found very unusual, the second of which is making me think this is maybe coming back in vogue and I'm behind the times?

Tiger Lily - and not a famous one. Ridiculous even on a celebrity.

There's a child with 'Normal Name'-Blu in my DC school. Again, not a celebrity and this is a rural town.

Cordelia
Magnus
Juliet
Jago
Sabrina
Cadence

I love slightly unusual names. DH knows a baby named Archimedes. I've always wanted a cat called Archimedes.

I know a primary aged boy named Patrick, I think it's a great name.

MadeOfStarStuff · 16/10/2021 10:18

Baby Kevin

I was also surprised to meet a Trevor who was my age when I was at uni (I’m now in my mid 30s), I’d always thought of it as an old man name

@Fairyfalls

Heard someone calling for Lourdes in home bargains the other day. An Ocatavian is taught in my children's swimming lessons.
Did they pronounce it Lords or Lor-Dez? I find the former bad enough but the latter is truly awful.
tiramisualwaystiramisu · 16/10/2021 10:34

I met a baby Daphne, which the mum told me sadly lots of people had slagged off as a name to her face. I wouldn't use it but it clearly provoked strong reactions.

I've recently met a Ralph, which I think has always been unusual. I also know a baby Bluebell, which isn't too bad, but her nickname is Bloobs, which I think is awful

Doubledoorsontogarden · 16/10/2021 10:47

I met a buoyant toddler called John

@RedSquirrel
I've got a Dexter and didn't know it was a breed of cow until he was about 3 and I ate a steak from one! I shall let him find that out for himself but he's 16 now so could be anytime Grin

Princess. Again at school. She was adorable too.

Peanutsandchilli · 16/10/2021 11:32

My daughter goes to school with a Ptolemy.

puddlebubble · 16/10/2021 12:08

Why has Patrick come up in this thread?!! Perfectly normal name and Juliet. Names must be very regional.

EmilyEmmabob · 16/10/2021 12:25
@EmilyEmmabob I met a girl called Diesel a few years ago, a very confident child with curly dark hair. Surely she can be the only one?
The one I know is a boy which is bad enough, but that name on a girl!? She must be the only one!

It is but first time meeting a child called Patrick, they are normally 70 with a pipe
Philandbill · 16/10/2021 13:20

@EmilyEmmabob Clearly not the same one then Grin
There were siblings at swimming called Paisley (boy) and Pixie (girl) where we used to live.

SophieHatterPendragon · 16/10/2021 13:29

Mars and Comet (brothers)

Also know older brothers (in the late 30s) called Lysander and Agamemnon

Fivebeanchilli · 16/10/2021 13:49

I can't believe how many people are mentioning very popular names as head turning...
I literally know 10 Franks and plenty of Douglases and Patricks under the age of 10.
There must be some very insular parts of the UK where these names are unusual!

Chakraleaf · 16/10/2021 14:24

@ThirdElephant

Fenton did it for me. He was on a school trip and I did wonder if the teacher was having a laugh.

'Fenton! FENTON! Come here!'

Omg I heard this the other day and thought the same
my8thMNusername · 16/10/2021 15:13

I know of a Cosmo (boy)

EleanorRedFox · 16/10/2021 15:17

I can't remember exactly what the name was but there was a mum calling her blonde daughter who looked about..11ish and her name was something like Laneesha.

CocaColaTruck1 · 16/10/2021 15:19

Thought of another

Le-a

Any guesses to how this is pronounced?!

Ledasha is a myth with racist undertones.

I heard a Mum screech "Lilith you LITTLE SHIT" today. That was fairly head turning.

DS goes to primary school with an Alan and a Derek.

CocaColaTruck1 · 16/10/2021 15:30

@ShowOfHands omg really?
I'm off to Google.

Laaaaa · 16/10/2021 15:30

A kid from brum called tequila. Met her family on holiday
