Have you heard any recently that have made you do a double take? I know of two baby Jason's born in the last two years, the first of which I found very unusual, the second of which is making me think this is maybe coming back in vogue and I'm behind the times?

There's a Wendy at nursery. That surprised me

Geronimo - I thought it was brilliant wasn’t one I’ve heard before or since in real life

I spoke to a lovely lady today who's baby was called carol.

She did not suit the name, but I smiled and nodded on.

Bixby and Bison (as in the animal)

Loads of girls and women with the name Alexa have suffered since Amazon decided to have that as the default for their spy-servant thing, but Alexa IS an actual name. I think Bixby's parents have done the same with Samsung's virtual assistant.

Lots of us wondered why Amazon didn't choose 'Computer' or 'Assistant' or something as the default name for their device - something that isn't an actual person's name; but then, maybe Samsung thought "Well, at least nobody out there is called Bixby, so we should be safe to use it" - and then these parents went and still proved them wrong!

A mum in the park calling her two kids boy and girl. It seemed to be they names as they answered to her whenever she called them boy or girl.

Not head turning but when my son came home with a class list for me to arrange his birthday party a few years ago, there were 12 little girls with the name mai/may/mae whether as a first name or hyphenated, I did find that quite unusual! I was in a class of 26 with 4 Ashley's in the 90s though so I suppose it's just very popular.

I once worked in a nursery where there was a boy called Arsol. The parents hadn't been in the UK long and didn't speak English and I always wonder if they realised as he got older and started calling him something else.

LadyLothbrook · 16/10/2021 01:07

I think Willie and Dylan are lovely names for girls especially Willie. Mind you my DD2 has a males name and always gets commented on.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/10/2021 01:07

Some of these names really make me think the Greeks have the right idea - permitted names only.

puddlebubble · 16/10/2021 01:20

@hotmeatymilk Smile frank, I am creased over laughing, poor fella!
