Have you heard any recently that have made you do a double take? I know of two baby Jason's born in the last two years, the first of which I found very unusual, the second of which is making me think this is maybe coming back in vogue and I'm behind the times?

A relative has a 3 year old named Leonard (Lenny) Derek, after relatives much loved granddads.

I heard a woman at a soft play calling out to her son Huntley, and I wondered if she had ever heard of Ian Huntley. Because every time she said the kids name, that bastards face came into my mind.

I also heard a kid named Hindley, which again brought in visions of Myra.

@EmilyEmmabob I met a girl called Diesel a few years ago, a very confident child with curly dark hair. Surely she can be the only one?

ChorizoJacketPotato · 16/10/2021 08:54

I've worked with children for years and years and have heard a lot of the names here!
Blue, Vixen, a couple of Nevaeh's, Honey, Aurora, Eurelia, Odin, Clara just off the top of my head that made me notice them.
Some I like, some not so much!

mum2jakie · 16/10/2021 09:17

Dadvdtret · 16/10/2021 09:32

There's a child at my youngest's dance class called Lovely. I thought it was just her dad calling her it as a term of endearment, but no, when they tick the register my youngest assures me they call "Lovely"! Lovely has at least 1 sister so I wonder what her name is?!

FuggyPidding · 16/10/2021 09:42

There is a Dorothy, Raymond & Frank at our school.
Know of 4 year olds called Mary & Bambi too.
Also heard of a Roscoe & an Orson - the latter of which gets called Awesome! :)

Felyne · 16/10/2021 09:46

Somersby. No idea of spelling as it was being shouted as he ran up the street.
As for head turning, well his didn't! He continued to run from his exasperated mum.

Throughabushbackwards · 16/10/2021 09:47

Skimmed the thread and am shocked to find that no one has suggested Balonz.

MatildaIThink · 16/10/2021 09:53

At my daughter's school there are two children with names that make everyone double take, the first is normally called Brad, which in itself seems a bit odd for a five year old English child, but his first and middle names are Bradward Edley, as if his parents got very confused. The second is a child called Slough, as in the town in which The Office was set and the poem "Come friendly bombs, fall on Slough, it is not fit for humans now".

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 16/10/2021 09:58

A friend recently named her dd Nancy Nora and I also know two Wyatts. None would be my first choice...

Amirite · 16/10/2021 09:58

Heard Zion and Bear recently… 😳

dannydyerismydad · 16/10/2021 10:00

I work in a school. For me there is no such thing as an unusual name any more.

I love what I think of as an "uncle name" though. Stanley, Alan, Trevor, Neil. They are so unexpected.

careerchangeperhaps · 16/10/2021 10:08

I remember when DD started nursery, there was a girl in her class called Honey and another called Alana. She came home and told me she'd played with 'Honey and Banana' all day and I was a bit Confused

Fairyfalls · 16/10/2021 10:08

Heard someone calling for Lourdes in home bargains the other day. An Ocatavian is taught in my children's swimming lessons.
