Dusty or Dennis

We have our little baby due in 4 months time so we're in no rush about names we're just curious..

for a little boy we both love the name Dusty. We think it's so cute and you don't really ever hear of it. However, me and DH aren't too sure about the long version which is Dustin. We like it but we don't love it, whereas we LOVE Dusty. And we're not sure if people would just assume that his name was Dustin?

Another name in the running is Dennis with the NN Denny. We love the long version of Dennis and think it's a really sweet name which is why we're so stuck on what to do because we really do love Dusty.

Any opinions of advice would be much appreciated!

Thank you all :)

so I appreciate all your opinions. I dont think it's okay though to reference my baby as a 'poor kid' this baby is the most loved baby ever. Just because we have different name styles does not mean that it's a poor kid.

I know I asked for opinions but I honestly didn't think the names would get this much hate.. we aren't naming our baby Dusty because of everyone's reactions so thanks for the comments and letting us know early it's not a name people would be keen of at all I appreciate it x

Friend has a son in his late 30s named Dustin.

Jesus wept.

Please just give your child a normal name. It doesn't have to be of the Alfie/Harry/Freddie ubiquitous type, but just something that is a nice normal name would be good. Your child has to use their name for their whole life, don't burden them before they are even born!

Retrievemysanity · 04/10/2021 22:37

I went to school with a Denny, that was his name it wasn’t short for Dennis. It suited him and I prefer that to Dennis which is a bit old fashioned for me. Never heard of anyone called Dusty except for Dusty Springfield and a squirrel that my daughter named.

Lockdownbear · 04/10/2021 22:37

@Libertaire

For the benefit of those under 40, here’s Dusty :
Good old dusty bin! Hahaha

No Op surely you can come up with a better name, Hey Dusty, go a dust your room, it's all Dusty, God love him if he gets dandruff- Dusty your all Dusty, dust your jacket!

MrsEricBana · 04/10/2021 22:43

You lot must be very young - I give you Dusty Farlow from Dallas 💕

Dusty or Dennis
ManifestingJoy · 04/10/2021 22:44

@millzcrawf

Does everyone hate the name Dougie too? This is also on our list x
I like Dougie! And I don't absolutely hate Dennis. But Dusty? No.

I like names like Victor and Howard.

millzcrawf · 04/10/2021 22:47

@MrsEricBana I rest my case 😂🙌🏽💕

My dog is called Dusty, but I still think it’s a great name! I also like Denny too. In reality whatever you name your baby people will get used to it!

chocolateorangeinhaler · 04/10/2021 23:01

Oh god no to dusty.

All I see when I hear that is sue ellen calling 'dusty' through clenched drunken teeth in Dallas.

WeasilyPleased · 04/10/2021 23:01

I really like both Denny and Douglas. Mostly Douglas.

Lockdownbear · 04/10/2021 23:03

@Hyacinth88

I don't like any of your choices.. But your baby your choice. Dougie I find hard is it.. Doogie or duggie I'm never sure
Doogie, - never Duggie, that's too close to Dug (dog) or dug a hole.
Mantlemoose · 04/10/2021 23:05

My first thought was American type name Dusty / Randy etc. Then Dusty Bin sorry. Dennis is ok but a bit Brian for me. Love Dougie though!

Lockdownbear · 04/10/2021 23:10

Not so keen on Denny thats a town near Stirling. But Danny / Daniel is good.

MumofSpud · 04/10/2021 23:15

Dougie is the best of your ideas - Dusty (to me) is a girls name

steppemum · 04/10/2021 23:17

Dougie is a great name. Really good works at all levels and ages.
And it is short for Douglas, which is also fab.

It is just 1,000 times better than Denny, Dennis or Dusty.

I think Dennis should sit in the same group as lal the 'old man' names that are really popular now, and so be a good current name. But somehow it just can;t shake off Dennis the Menace, so that spoils it.

ClinkeyMonkey · 04/10/2021 23:22

Dusty Mop from Hickory House was my first thought. I am old.

Snugglybuggly · 05/10/2021 01:04

Dusty is a girl's name?!

Dusty bin?

GiveIrelandBackToTheIrish · 05/10/2021 01:06

@abitfunny

You’re all so bloody boring and simple minded. OP Dusty is great. It has a nice ring to it and people won’t forget it. Even those who don’t like it won’t say it to your face anyway! All these comments about grown adults with unusual names is nonsense. I’ve never had any issues and have a fairly out there name. If anything I’m glad I don’t have the same name as 2/3/10 of my friends or colleagues (yawn)
Who pissed in your cornflakes christ alive
Balonzette · 05/10/2021 04:44

Dusty is becoming more popular for a girl. The guy from Maroon 5 has a Dusty, I think. I don't like Dusty for a boy. It's very feminine. Dennis and Douglas are to me both fine, although I'm not in love with either.

Gufo · 05/10/2021 06:44

All great names for a pet but I wouldn't choose any of these for a human. Each to their own though!

Joystir59 · 05/10/2021 06:48

Dusty? As in needs a good polish? Dusty as in Springfield? Sounds very fake and trans to me. Dustin is a great name though.

dementedpixie · 05/10/2021 06:51

I have a cat called Dusty!

HeronLanyon · 05/10/2021 06:53

With the two dusty - girls - I know. I’ve never though if dust. I like the name. With one I do then have an occasional dusty Springfield thought as parents are slightly the type to have named her after her - have never asked and don’t know this to be true but I wouldn’t be surprised.
