Dusty or Dennis

We have our little baby due in 4 months time so we're in no rush about names we're just curious..

for a little boy we both love the name Dusty. We think it's so cute and you don't really ever hear of it. However, me and DH aren't too sure about the long version which is Dustin. We like it but we don't love it, whereas we LOVE Dusty. And we're not sure if people would just assume that his name was Dustin?

Another name in the running is Dennis with the NN Denny. We love the long version of Dennis and think it's a really sweet name which is why we're so stuck on what to do because we really do love Dusty.

Any opinions of advice would be much appreciated!

My gran uttered (with revulsion) the word 'penis' in such a way that it rhymed with "Dennis". Just saying.

Really, don't. There are oodles of girls' names that will make you feel the same "Dusty" thrill, but which won't embarrass your child in years to come.

Another vote for Dennis. The one I know is lovely.

Dusty is underused fir a very good reason.

If you like names from films, I think you need a change of genre, maybe try A Room with a View?

I would think very carefully about your name choices OP as there seems to be a potential for bullying.

Dennis is lovely. Dusty is awful and I would think it was a girl.

Dustin nn Dusty is nice enough imo. I wouldn't use Dennis or Dusty as a name in itself.

I would never assume the full name was Dustin for a dc called Dusty.

I'd roll my eyes and assume the parents were try-hards and had chosen an awful, schleb yoo-nique style name.

Dennis isn’t my favourite but it’s worlds better than Dusty

Like imagine introducing your newborn and saying ‘oh yes, we were inspired to name him after the crud that collects on top of your kitchen cupboards, you know, that ugly grey detritus of dead skin cells and grot’

I like Dennis spelt Denys, how my very lovely grandpa spelt his name, think it could be a good compromise between the two although dusty is awful sorry
