Ellora or Paisleigh?

Ellora and Paisleigh are the top two me and DH have chosen but not sure of which one to choose as we like them both equally. We both prefer spelling them differently than having them as Elora and paisley if anyone's wondering. DD is due in December so we've got time to have a think and we'd love to hear your opinions thanks.

oh dear @98gigs

why the ridiculous spellings??

dreadful, awful

Shellfishblastard · 26/09/2021 21:19

I really dislike commenting negatively on name threads as it’s such an individual decision.

However, Paisleigh is awful OP.

Elora is actually ok. It’s basically Laura with an E at the start. It looks better with one L I think

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/09/2021 21:19

I have spent my life spelling my name for people, it's annoying. What would be worse would be spelling it out and people looking at me with 'WTF were you parents thinking' on their face.

You baby is loved by you, unique and special. It doesn't need a badly spelled name to make that.

SoupDragon · 26/09/2021 21:20

Paisleigh Is truly, truly awful.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 26/09/2021 21:21

Do you have a name that is regularly mid-spelled? I do. It is really really irritating. Think “nails on a blackboard” irritating.

And occasionally problematic when I am sent a really important email and the person sending it can’t spell my name and so it is lost forever.

daisypond · 26/09/2021 21:22

Ellora is a million times better than Paisleigh.
But are you pronouncing it like eh-lora? Or more like Ella-ra?

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 26/09/2021 21:23

Ellora mildly awful, Paisleigh truly shocking!

nopenotplaying · 26/09/2021 21:24

Ellora is an Indian name 'the name given to the cave temples of India' it is not a funny spelling as others have said.

Elora has a lovely meaning and is a pretty name.

Personally I'm not keen on the other.

Good luck with your baby c

NotMyDayJob · 26/09/2021 21:25

Paisleigh is really dreadful

easterholidays · 26/09/2021 21:25

Elora is pretty but she'll have a lifetime of correcting people who think she's called Laura. I'm afraid I agree that Paisley/Paisleigh is not a good name, however you spell it.

I like the suggestions above from @Puffalicious.

Seesawmummadaw · 26/09/2021 21:25

Both awful.

Have you thought of using srfsrgye?

MKCH · 26/09/2021 21:26

Paisleigh - I actually read Pashleigh at first and then thought oh, like the pattern, and then oh no, like the place in Scotland, and then remembered it was familiar as it's what my niece calls her comforter.
Ellora - will never be able to go to Italy without confusion with allora.

Neither to my taste, sorry.

PattyPan · 26/09/2021 21:26

Ellora is ok but she will have a lifetime of being asked how to spell it. I also don’t know where to put the emphasis - is it ELL-or-uh or El-OR-uh?
Paisleigh is so bad I initially thought this was a troll thread. Please remember you’re naming a human who has to live with the name as an adult.

Suitcaseseverywhere · 26/09/2021 21:28

Paisleigh looks like parsley.

Pallisers · 26/09/2021 21:28

@daisypond

Ellora is a million times better than Paisleigh. But are you pronouncing it like eh-lora? Or more like Ella-ra?
this. I'd pronounce Elora as eh-lora but if I saw the name Ellora would say Ella-ra.

Paisleigh reminds me of a kid in my daughter's class here in the US- Ryleigh. no excuse either as her father was irish and should have known better.

DunderMifflinSalesRep · 26/09/2021 21:29

I know a poor kid called Paisleigh with that spelling. Mum is called Paige, Dad is called Lee. They probably thought they were being unique as well. I'm afraid it's a "Neverrrr, Neverrrr, Neverrrrr!" from me.

Ellora is pretty meh in my opinion.

GemmaRuby · 26/09/2021 21:31

Sorry OP I have nothing positive to say other than Elora is inoffensive. But will often be mistaken for Laura, which is a nice name. Lorna is also nice.

ChrissyPlummer · 26/09/2021 21:32

Neither, echoing pp, they’re really not nice

Skyla2005 · 26/09/2021 21:33

I don't like either. There's so many nice names how have you got down to these two poor baby

Sarah2384 · 26/09/2021 21:34

Ellora is ok - at least it looks like a name.
Paisleigh is awful; sorry, really awful.

Flufferty · 26/09/2021 21:34

Do you have any other names you like OP? I really hope you're not too upset with the responses on here, although I do agree with everyone that Paisleigh is beyond dreadful. Nobody deserves to be lumbered with a name like that.

tickledtiger · 26/09/2021 21:35

Ellora is better.

Paisleigh is probably going to be a spelling nightmare for her forever so I wouldn’t pick that.

IndecentCakes · 26/09/2021 21:36

Is this one for Paiiiiisley? Oh, you got to help me Grin
(for those of a certain age)

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 26/09/2021 21:39

Why are so many people determined to condemn their child to a lifetime of a silly name and constant explanation in a bid to be considered original by their own peers?

LaLaLouella · 26/09/2021 21:39

Elora is ok - but sounds a bit like a name Aldi would give to one of their knock off foods

Paisleigh is just utterly terrible, you have to look twice to figure out how to pronounce it... and then you wish you hadn't.
