I love it husband hates it
I think it’s cool- digs for short

The name Diggory is a boy's name of French origin meaning "Lost one".
It used to be a name used in Cornwall a long time a go.

What do you think?

It's awful.

HoldingTheDoor · 24/09/2021 16:19

The meaning is terrible too.

SylvanasWindrunner · 24/09/2021 16:21

Mmm not keen. All I can think of is Cedric.

RiotAtTheRodeo · 24/09/2021 16:23

Ah no. Please don't. People would laugh at little Diggory. And for some reason it makes me picture some corpulent old perv in a velvet waistcoat. An Uncle Monty type.

Same here!
EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 24/09/2021 16:25

I’ve always loved it (with just one ‘g’ I think?) since I read The Magician’s Nephew as a child. Still my very favourite children’s book.

The name seems tremendously out of style right now - in sound and associations - but you could start a trend!

randomuseragain · 24/09/2021 16:25

How about Digby?

FreddieStandensBFF · 24/09/2021 16:25

I like it.

Mankini · 24/09/2021 16:27

I know two teenage Diggorys (Diggories?) - it's pleasantly different, though I love old 'lost' names from the early C20th.

Nobody here likes anythnig remotely different - if I put the names of my children on here there would probably be calls for me to have them removed by social services Wink

Chloemol · 24/09/2021 16:28

Nope, and certainly not digs

Elisemum · 24/09/2021 16:30

God no, don’t do it.

Zarene · 24/09/2021 16:31

I like it!

Poppetts1234 · 24/09/2021 16:32

I think it’s very marmite

But you know Voldemort killed Cedric don’t you? Harry Potter is popular enough that that is what most people will think of, apart from the small children that would be your child’s first friends who would think of digging in mud or sand or something.

Maui69 · 24/09/2021 16:34

I'm with your husband on this one I'm afraid!

My son’s name frequently comes up under ‘brace choices I didn’t dare to make’, which is even odder. Grin

I quite like Diggory, also because of The Magician’s Nephew — though I remember not knowing as a child reader whether it should be pronounced Diggory to rhyme with Piggery or Didgery like a didgeridoo.

RiotAtTheRodeo · 24/09/2021 16:39

piggery or didgery Grin

I know it's been a long week when things like that give me the giggles.

therealhoppityvoosh · 24/09/2021 16:40

I don't think it's a Marmite name - most people have said they don't like it! Great for a dog, not a human.

NCAFGS · 24/09/2021 16:42

Que singing 'hey diggety" but with hey diggory along with all the other bullying...

Pemba · 24/09/2021 16:43

Yes I also read The Magician's Nephew and never was quite sure of the pronunciation. It must be the hard 'g' right? Otherwise it is like 'didgeridoo'.

But I think it is a bit much really. Sounds like it should be a dog's name.

No. Not for a baby. Nice for a dog or a rabbit.

Yep. Immediately started singing No Diggety. This can't be real surely. Diggory? 😂

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 24/09/2021 16:57

No it's awful and digs is worse

CattingT · 24/09/2021 16:58

For a puppy?
