I love it husband hates it
I think it’s cool- digs for short

The name Diggory is a boy's name of French origin meaning "Lost one".
It used to be a name used in Cornwall a long time a go.

What do you think?

Nope.

I never understood why you'd want to call a child 'Perdita' either.

RowanAlong · 24/09/2021 17:05

I love it! Not that way out at all, considering some of the names you hear, and is a proper name with history, so...

takingmytimeonmyride · 24/09/2021 17:05

I love it. I've loved it since I read The Magician's Nephew.

SusannahHolmes · 24/09/2021 17:05

How can it be a French boys name when it literally sounds like you are saying "ten gorillas" in French (Dix gorilles)

For that reason it's a no from me.

Barwell76 · 24/09/2021 17:20

My first thought was Diggory Venn.
Not keen tbh

rooarsome · 24/09/2021 17:22

Cute for a puppy. Awful for a child

Pissinthepottyplease · 24/09/2021 17:23

I know a few but your DH hates it so it’s a no go.

annacondom · 24/09/2021 17:24

I hate it. But so what? Great for a dog(gery).

Sisisimone · 24/09/2021 17:27

You actually know a few people called Diggery? I lived in places over 3 continents, travelled for years and never met a single one. Where do you live?

Regularsizedrudy · 24/09/2021 18:13

I like the way you work it
No diggity, I got to bag it up

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 24/09/2021 18:15

It makes me think of Hey Duggee

MolkosTeenageAngst · 24/09/2021 18:17

What about Douglas, nickname Doug or Dougie?

Floralnomad · 24/09/2021 18:17

Dreadful , as is Digs as a nn . Cute for a puppy though Diggory dog .

CliffsofMohair · 24/09/2021 18:18

@NailsNeedDoing

But you know Voldemort killed Cedric don’t you? Harry Potter is popular enough that that is what most people will think of, apart from the small children that would be your child’s first friends who would think of digging in mud or sand or something.
Spoiler

😂

CurryLover55 · 24/09/2021 18:25

I was thinking of The Secret Garden but that was Dickon

ProperVexed · 24/09/2021 18:34

Love it!
But then I also like Mungo, Hector, Magnus and Horatio so I can't be trusted!

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 24/09/2021 18:46

ProperVexed, those are four of my favourite boys’ names!

I love it. I have Cornish ancestors called Diggory.
Also: The Magician’s Nephew.

ofwarren · 24/09/2021 19:09

Diggory is a dog's name

GreyhoundG1rl · 24/09/2021 19:14

It has no redeeming features whatsoever.

Miserablewithweight · 24/09/2021 19:16

I like it! I always think of the magicians nephew when I hear it.

IfImLyingImDying · 24/09/2021 19:18

I’ve loved it ever since The Magician’s Nephew too. I also like Dicken but obviously that could be problematic….

IamJuliaJohnson · 24/09/2021 19:21

I went to school with a boy who’s middle name was Diggory (in Cornwall). We all used to call him Diggory as teens. Nice guy. We liked the name.
