I love it husband hates it
I think it’s cool- digs for short

The name Diggory is a boy's name of French origin meaning "Lost one".
It used to be a name used in Cornwall a long time a go.

What do you think?

It does make me think immediately of Cedric.

WombatChocolate · 24/09/2021 21:13

Dickon was the boy in The Secret Garden. Not sure I’ve spelt it correctly though.

FriedasCarLoad · 24/09/2021 21:33

Ah, you're right. Well, I wouldn't call a child that!

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 24/09/2021 21:43

@Poppetts1234 As a PP pointed out, Diggory sounds like “10 gorillas” if you’re French. Dix gorilles.

1WildFlower · 24/09/2021 21:53

Digby better than Diggory!

Meecrowavay · 24/09/2021 21:58

No diggory (I've got to bag it up)

Gardenlass · 24/09/2021 21:58

It wouldn't be my favourite for a boy, definitely. But there are worse. I once had a brief acquaintance with a woman who named her boy Sprout.

WimpoleHat · 24/09/2021 22:01

Hate it, sorry. Doesn’t help that the only one I’ve ever known was obnoxious. And his mother was the archetypal pretentious MC private school parent.

WaltzingBetty · 24/09/2021 22:03

Love it.
Magician's nephew as said.

Had a pal whose nickname was digs - always thought it was cool

WildCherryBlossom · 24/09/2021 22:07

Oh I love it. The Magician's Nephew was my favourite of the Narnia books.

And @ProperVexed those are great names. May I add Sholto?

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 24/09/2021 22:09

Sholto

Ludo(vic)

Cosmo

Lorne

reallyalurker · 24/09/2021 22:27

I'm another who knows it through Narnia and likes it. I like the suggestion of "Digs" too. I have met one and he did not shorten it.

user1471604848 · 24/09/2021 22:27

When my sister was pregnant, she called the bump Diggory.
We got so used to the name, if it had been a boy and she had used it, it would have sounded normal. But she had a girl.

Digby is nice.

tickledtiger · 24/09/2021 23:51

I love it, surprised at all the negative responses.

Kanaloa · 25/09/2021 01:27

I really don’t like it. But then I do tend to like more versatile ‘plain’ names so maybe just a taste issue. I wouldn’t personally like to be called Diggory.

whenwillthemadnessend · 25/09/2021 08:34

My cat is called diggory as I'm a potter fan
We called him diggy for short

For a boy. I'm not sure. I don't hate it but I would think of poor Cedric.

Ikeameatballs · 25/09/2021 08:39

I don’t mind it, prefer Digby though.

I really dislike Mungo.

What else do you like?

CorianderAndCream · 25/09/2021 09:57

Cedric

Balonzette · 25/09/2021 10:44

I don't like it, sorry OP.

Digby?

HeadPain · 25/09/2021 23:58

God, no. Sorry

LegArmpits · 26/09/2021 00:00

Oooh I love it!

Whydoiwearsomuchleopardprint · 26/09/2021 00:01

Really awful name , sorry!

GingerScallop · 26/09/2021 00:58

I immediately has image of kids in playground singing at him: dickory diggory dock. the mouse went up the clock etc etc. May be even diggory diggory dork.
