Edith and Maud have been revived already.

It's Beryl and Bertha we're waiting on.

nocoolnamesleft · 26/08/2021 21:23

Only Agnes I can think of is Agnes Nutter, who was a victim of the Pendle witch trials. Though I guess Good Omens portrayed her as a kick ass character who made sure her persecutors died with her.

MaMelon · 26/08/2021 21:26

No no no Grin It’s true awful - very old lady, and not in a good way.

How much longer before Sharon and Tracy become popular again, I wonder?

Pemba · 26/08/2021 21:34

What about Gladys though? Grin

I like the idea of Agnes, it's got history etc. Just find the sound so harsh.

Melliferous · 26/08/2021 21:40

Imagine being called Gladys.

diddlediddle · 26/08/2021 21:43

I've always liked Agnes as a name. In french it sounds so much more chic though!

I just couldn't quite name my baby it. Looking at a tiny beautiful baby girl I couldn't quite get past the clunky AG sound but! I do like it. Not fussed by Nessie. Nessa possibly.

Alwaysonthehunt · 26/08/2021 21:45

@MacSmirving

My grandmother was named Agnes but was always called Nan for short. I also had a great aunt named Agnes who was always called Nancy. I rather like it but possibly for sentimental reasons.
Are you sure she wasn't called Nan because she was your Nan? 🤔
DGFB · 26/08/2021 21:47

No poor kid

IWantToBeNynaeve · 26/08/2021 21:51

I actually like Agnes too but I reckon I'd be in the minority where I live, it's seen as very old fashioned. Nancy is lovely too, and Nessa, but Nessie is forever linked to the monster unfortunately.

PaolaDiLorenzo · 26/08/2021 21:55

ancientgran
Did her middle name begin with M ?

DramaAlpaca · 26/08/2021 22:41

I actually really like it.

Senga and Nan are traditional Scottish shortenings of Agnes I believe - I knew of 2 Nans growing up, only one of whom had grand children (and gran/granny is more normal in Scotland anyway) and a Senga just in the village where I grew up. I didn't realise one of the Nans was an Agnes until her funeral!

margotsdevil · 26/08/2021 22:51

@Heliachi I actually know a couple of little Connies - I quite like it!

Dogoodfeelgood · 26/08/2021 22:55

I think Frances is a nice name that has the same vibe but is prettier. Can be Fran for short.

Ada or Adeline is also same vibe but prettier. X

TerribleCustomerCervix · 26/08/2021 22:58

I know a 1 year old Agnes- I’ll admit when her mum announced the name I was horrified, but I’ve got used to it now.

Nessie is horrendous though- imagine being at school and someone making the connection to the Loch Ness Monster.

Classica · 26/08/2021 22:58

Connie is quite sweet. Being lumbered with a name like Doris though would be grounds to divorce one's parents!

Classica · 26/08/2021 23:00

Nessie would be such an arse-ache of a name. The world and their wife know about the Loch Ness Monster. It would be like being called Bigfoot or Godzilla.

BlueRaincoat1 · 26/08/2021 23:11

What about Greta instead of Agnes. Its a similar vibe I think, but a bit more modern (in my opinion). I love Greta!

joystir59 · 26/08/2021 23:14

Agnes is lovely, Nessie is dreadful unless she lives in the Loch

spaceghetto · 26/08/2021 23:14

Really like them both!

Warmduscher · 26/08/2021 23:26

I always think the practice of choosing a nickname before a child is born, rather than waiting for one to develop organically, is really odd.

Just call her Nessie - don’t fanny about with a name for her birth certificate if you’re never going to use it.

Marcipex · 26/08/2021 23:55

Really not a fan. It’s too dismal, and she’ll be called Aggie.

Givemethatknife · 27/08/2021 00:02

@milkyawayday

Senga! 🤣

Says it all. Are we running out of old lady names to make trendy? This is scraping the barrel now.

Theres literally only Agnes, Edith and Maud left to revive

Agatha is better isnt it?

Edith and Maud are well revived.

I like Agnes, but not Nessie - makes me think of a sea cow..
