You can't call your kid swan. Lots of nice nature names if that's your thing. Lots of plants, flowers and trees you could name your baby after. Or if it has to be a bird then Robyn/Robin, Wren, Jay, Dove, Lark, Paloma...

inmyslippers · 28/06/2021 19:49

Middle name lake

GoWentGone · 28/06/2021 19:50

Actually I prefer it to Wren, which is often commended on here, and which I find sickeningly twee.

Leda?

CandyLeBonBon · 28/06/2021 19:54

@Seesawmummadaw - Katie, is that you??

allihaveleft · 28/06/2021 19:55

Swan is probably short for Swantje, a Frisian name. It does mean swan or swan’s daughter. Pronounced svant-yeh

20viona · 28/06/2021 19:56

No

allihaveleft · 28/06/2021 19:57

Frisia = islands off the coast of Netherlands and Northwest Germany, hence a popular name in that region. I have met many women and girls called Swantje or Svantje but wasn’t aware of the nickname.

Honestly, I swear parents get crazier by the minute. Just choose a sensible name which goes well with your surname or any surname you may have in the future, not one she could be bullied over for many years to come. Beaky, anyone!

Stop trying to be the trendy one; it just makes you the laughing stock at the school gate. If you love the name so much, change yours by deed poll and live with it yourself.

CandyLeBonBon · 28/06/2021 20:05

@dogistoobigforthesofa

The Irish for swan is Eala. That might work better (unless you live in Ireland of course!)
I bloody love that! How is it pronounced?

I'm officially broody! 😂

GettingItOutThere · 28/06/2021 20:06

oh god why!!

"hi, this is my lawyer, swan"
"swan the stripper" etc

noooo

CandyLeBonBon · 28/06/2021 20:07

I see your Swan and I raise you a FRESIA (inspired by others on this thread!)

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/06/2021 20:09

It would be a perfect name for the first-born of triplets, as long as the siblings who follow are called Stu and Sanuther Grin

not one she could be bullied over for many years to come. Beaky, anyone!

With a slight twist, maybe.... loving the thought of six siblings called Dave, Dee, Daisy, Becky, Mick & Rich Grin

dogistoobigforthesofa · 28/06/2021 20:10

@CandyLeBonBon You can hear it if you follow this link - kind of like Ay-la www.howtopronounce.com/eala

GoldenSun1 · 28/06/2021 20:11

I actually like it Blush

PurBal · 28/06/2021 20:13

No. Her name is Liz, Swan is a nickname because the protagonists dead wife was also called Liz. To be honest I've heard worse names but its not for me.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/06/2021 20:14

If you happen to live anywhere near Middlesbrough, she could grow up to be an 'alternative' celebrity and, for her wacky, nonsensical professional pseudonym phrase (like Joan As Policewoman or Megan Thee Stallion), she could be known as Swan Tees-Made Grin

MaleficentsCrow · 28/06/2021 20:17

😂 you can't name a kid "Swan"

Makes me think of matches, filters and Tabacco rolling papers.

Also football "Swansea City"

I mean of you are a 40 a day Rollie smoker and love Swansea city football club go for it 😂

Changethetoner · 28/06/2021 20:17

No. The show on Netflix was created for entertainment purposes. A baby is a human, a real person, and deserves a human name.

dogistoobigforthesofa · 28/06/2021 20:18

@CandyLeBonBon Sorry - this is a better link www.teanglann.ie/en/fuaim/-eala More like Ah-la really. i thought it was pronounced Ay-la, but seems I'm wrong (I'm not Irish but DH is). Probably culturally confusing then, so maybe best avoided.

Bluntness100 · 28/06/2021 20:20

Swan doesn’t work op.

But you can call her duck, magpie, owl or chaffinch of course

Oh wait, maybe you should call her an actual name.

VerbenaGirl · 28/06/2021 20:22

The first thing that jumped into my mind is Swan Vesta.

GingerBeverage · 28/06/2021 20:24

There was a young man on Big Fat Gypsy Weddings called Swanley Smith.

Is it the sound you like or that it's a bird?

LoveFall · 28/06/2021 20:26

I really don't think naming a child Swan is a good idea.

SwanAnon · 28/06/2021 20:27

I've name changed!
Now I'm married, my initials spell SWAN.
It is commented on by everyone when they see it (ie whenever they email me, as my email address is SWAN....@company.com
I'm affectionately called Swanny by some people, but I'd never want it as a name.
Please think again.

cocoloco987 · 28/06/2021 20:29

I don't think Swan is up there with Bunny - more like rabbit, or mouse or dog. It's definitely not a name!
