@Duskydai

The woman in Fatherhood is named Lizzie but nicknamed Swan. Big difference! Up to you what you name your child but it’s a no from me
Jesus! Wanting to name your child after a tv character is dumb enough, but when it isn't even their name... 🙄
Dumbledoresgirl · 28/06/2021 18:38

Up the swannie?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/06/2021 18:38

No. They're not even very nice birds; aggressive and bullying. Call your daughter something else.

OverByYer · 28/06/2021 18:38

Only if you call her brother Duckie

WellTidy · 28/06/2021 18:38

A swan? Go on!

Crowsandshivers · 28/06/2021 18:38

Please don't. If you want a bird name then go for Robyn/Robin....

RampantIvy · 28/06/2021 18:38

I'm so sorry @DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult Flowers

Shakirasma · 28/06/2021 18:39

When I was a little girl I had a beautiful cuddly toy swan called Swanie.

I loved it so much that I was determined that when I had children I would call one of them Swan or Swanie after my beloved toy.

Then at some point over the age of 10, I grew up and realised that was bloody ridiculous.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 28/06/2021 18:39

I guess it's also ok if your surname is Sea.
and you're Welsh

dogistoobigforthesofa · 28/06/2021 18:39

I can see why you might think Swan is a pretty name, but what if your daughter grows up to be anything but swan-like? If you like bird names, how about Ava - that comes from Avis, the Latin for bird.

Getawriggleon · 28/06/2021 18:40

Do long necks run in the family?

MrsToothyBitch · 28/06/2021 18:40

I just think of little Swan Brooner from the Living Dolls documentary about the child pageant system in the US.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 28/06/2021 18:40

she'll break your arm

Toebean · 28/06/2021 18:40

Is your surname lake? Hmm Awful, just awful, up there with Bunny.

Thedogscollar · 28/06/2021 18:41

Ridiculous and cruel and devoid if any rational thought.
Does that cover it.
Don't care if I'm told off for this. You asked opinions this is mine.

Palavah · 28/06/2021 18:42

@RainRainGoAway12

I was at the park the other day and there was a boy called Snow. Not what you asked but I was a bit Hmm at that name too.

I think if you are a celebrity, crack on. If you’re a mere mortal, maybe just use it as a middle name.

Snow, like the one-hit wonder white rapper from the 90s?!
Kanaloa · 28/06/2021 18:43

It could make an interesting and fun middle name. Wouldn’t use it for a first name, it would be embarrassing to introduce yourself as Swan.

FlosCampi · 28/06/2021 18:44

I thought at first you were trying to buy a Swan for a baby girl! It's no more ridiculous than Wren, Ivy, Ruby etc. We aren't accustomed to disassociate it with the vocabulary word yet, that's all. We call children Scarlet, Blue, Grey, but not Yellow. Other languages have White as a first name, but we don't. As someone with two flower named children, it's interesting what goes and what doesn't. I know a baby Wolf, and it suits him, why not Swan?

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 28/06/2021 18:44

go for it, but don't be surprised if at first she looks like an ugly duckling

Eviethyme · 28/06/2021 18:46

Her name isn't Swan. They call her Swan, you can be nicknames big dick Danny but doesn't mean your going to change your name to it.

Just no.

MordredsOrrery · 28/06/2021 18:47

From the thread title I thought you were asking about buying a swan as a gift for a baby girl, which I thought was a pretty unreasonable idea. Having read your OP I think giving her a swan is actually the less unreasonable idea.

Thedogscollar · 28/06/2021 18:48

Can you let me know what about a baby could or ever would suit the name Wolf?
Unless he grows up to be a gladiator (old tv show from the 80's) then it's a bloody awful name for a baby.

pinkhousesarebest · 28/06/2021 18:51

I had a Swan in my class many years ago. She was actually swan like, which helped.

Seesawmummadaw · 28/06/2021 18:51

@Toebean

Noooo! I love Bunny (luckily not having any more children)

@MordredsOrrery

I thought the same.
but I didn't think anyone can buy a swan, aren't they all protected and belong to the Queen?

and agree with you. buying one would be fine
