I love the sound of it. My only issues is Ms Lestrange Shock would the association still be made? Does it matter?

Yes, and maybe.

ScribblyBaller · 22/06/2021 17:14

I don't know who Ms Lestrange is but Bellatrix makes me think 'dominatrix'.

INeedtobealone · 22/06/2021 17:15

What about Beatrix?

Gullible2021 · 22/06/2021 17:15

I genuinely didn't realise it was a real name. I thought it was one of the ones JK Rowling made up. I think the link would be made, sorry. I'm not even a Potter fan and it's where my mind instantly went.

thisplaceisweird · 22/06/2021 17:16

Absolutely do not call your child Bellatrix

2orangey · 22/06/2021 17:16

It is the name of a star, which is lovely, but most people will think of the Harry Potter baddie. NN Bella, Belle...Trixie?

Dollywilde · 22/06/2021 17:17

Sorry, hard veto. It’s like calling your son Voldemort or Dobby Grin

Toebean · 22/06/2021 17:17

It doesnt sound right

JellyMouldJnr · 22/06/2021 17:17

The association would definitely be made - I think JK Rowling made up the name. And she is a death eater. Just no.

HunkyPunk · 22/06/2021 17:18

Bellatrix be associated with Harry Potter? No, op! Why on earth would you think that? Grin
The association with HP would be the least of little Bellatrix's problems!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/06/2021 17:19

Please don't.

GreenTeaPingPong · 22/06/2021 17:21

I just googled and JK got the name from a star in the constellation of Orion (although it means warrior derived from warlike so not exactly 'pretty'). Of course it'll make people think of the death eater. If you have another DD you could call her Narcissa Hmm

sparkleshines · 22/06/2021 17:21

Yes, immediately think of Harry Potter.. how about Beatrice with Tris as a nickname, Trixie is also a nice nickname for a younger child but with Beatrice on the BC it gives flexibility as she gets older

If you chose it for the HP connotations, Luna is lovely too.

RaspberryCoulis · 22/06/2021 17:22

JK Rowling pretty much invented Bellatrix. I love Harry Potter as much as the next Muggle and you could get away with Luna, Hermione, Ginny, even Lavender at a push. But not Bellatrix.

Topseyt · 22/06/2021 17:22

No. It will be forever associated with Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potter series.

Beatrix or Beatrice would be much better. Or just call your child Bella. That is quite nice as a name in it's own right. I think so anyway.

Seesawmummadaw · 22/06/2021 17:24

I haven’t read/watched HP so didn’t get the connection but still no.

LostThings · 22/06/2021 17:26

No, dont like it. Beatrix is nice and Bea is cute.

MoChridhe · 22/06/2021 17:26

No

MrsTophamHat · 22/06/2021 17:28

I think it would be incredibly self indulgent to name your child Bellatrix. I would not want the very first thing I did for my child to give them a weird name with strong associations with a evil witch.

VettiyaIruken · 22/06/2021 17:31

I've never read the book others are referring to so to me it sounds like a porn name.
I'm picturing leather, whips and nipple clamps!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/06/2021 17:37

It makes me think if "Bag o' Tricks"

Seablue1 · 22/06/2021 17:40

I wouldn’t do it. It might be you are drawn to three syllable names, just a thought.

PattyPan · 22/06/2021 17:43

100% Harry Potter villain. If you’re going to use a HP name at least make it a non-evil character.

ChequerBoard · 22/06/2021 17:49

Why do you the full hog and call the child Beelzebelle (be-elle-ze-belle) like Jeremy Clovenhoof?

YourCakesAreShit · 22/06/2021 17:50

It's a beautiful name (of a star), but I do think it might be associated with mad old Bella from HP, yes...
