Ridiculous. Especially as his nickname for her was 'Cabbage'.

True.

lollipoprainbow · 08/06/2021 18:51

I think they picked it for all the wrong reasons and didn't think about how the Queen might feel. I bet the Queen winces every time she hears 'Lilibet', as it will remind her of her lost husband.

Or maybe she finds it comforting ?

Serpenta · 08/06/2021 18:57

'lost husband' makes it sound like he's missing in action at Ypres or went out to sea and never came back.

He died just shy of his 100th birthday after having had quite a lovely life. I'm sure she misses him but I doubt she winces every time something reminds her of him. She strikes me as quite a stoic woman so I doubt she needs random strangers deciding there's melodrama where there's none.

Port1aCastis · 08/06/2021 19:11

I also thought cabbage was Prince Philip's name for the Queen.

Bloody hotline to the palace has been busy though if you read some of the stuff on here that would be the assumption, no wonder the new Parents up and left!

Roundlampshade · 08/06/2021 19:55

I heard that HMTQ secretly flew out to LA and personally asked D and DoS to name the baby after her.

Frogcorset · 08/06/2021 22:31

@Roundlampshade

I heard that HMTQ secretly flew out to LA and personally asked D and DoS to name the baby after her.
And gave her a lot of tiny block colour outfits with matching hats, and a tiny, tiny black handbag. Grin
olidora63 · 09/06/2021 00:32

My friend who has known me for 50 years has always called me Lilebet ...so am actually loving their choice..!

CrazyCatsAndKittens · 09/06/2021 01:08

I think The Queen is the epitome of smile and wave. No matter what happens, she'll say "How wonderful!". Charles and William are a different matter altogether.

Roundlampshade · 09/06/2021 05:05

That too @Frogcorset Wink

spacegirl123 · 09/06/2021 05:27

@Serpenta

So many people on this thread need therapy. This kind of fixation is not normal.

You don't know any of these people!

I was just thinking the same thing 😂

YOU DON'T KNOW THESE PEOPLE!

Jeez a lot of vile being spewed here.

ExitChasedByABee · 09/06/2021 05:39

@spacegirl123 For some reason, there are some people who have made it some kind of personal mission to perceive every single thing Harry and Meghan do as some kind of slight. And then think their analysis must be correct because xyz publications says so and therefore it must be taken as gospel.

spacegirl123 · 09/06/2021 05:44

@ExitChasedByABee yea I find it all very strange. And it's the same people who slate them for seeking media attention. If that's what you think, don't give them the attention you think they crave! Then they won't get any more attention and they'll go away, if that's what you want. Lol 🤦‍♀️

ExitChasedByABee · 09/06/2021 05:57

@spacegirl123 My thoughts exactly! I saw the thread and read the original post and literally thought, “That’s really the name Harry and Meghan chose? Meh, not really my cup of tea but whatever floats your boat” and then that was that. But then I read on and I was shocked by what people are posting, especially of a public figure who it has been reported to have suicidal tendencies and has apparently just recently given birth. And my hope is that then if nobody clicks on those sensationalist articles, there’ll hopefully be a realisation that this isn’t of any public interest and they’d those type of articles will die down. I can only live in hope. I think I read a poster on some thread who called it “hate following” and it’s precisely that.

WanderingFruitWonderer · 09/06/2021 05:58

I think it's a lovely, sweet-sounding name. Lili is a beautiful name.
Funnily enough, when I first heard it, it made me think of Lilliput from Gulliver's Travels! Which for me is a wonderful association (one of my favourite tales).
I'm not a royalist by any means (not anti either, just indifferent) so have zero opinions about the family politics or not re the name. The name itself is gorgeous in my opinion Smile

ExitChasedByABee · 09/06/2021 06:00

Edit: And my hope is that then if nobody clicks on those sensationalist articles, there’ll hopefully be a realisation that this isn’t of any public interest and they’d then those type of articles will die down.

Violetlavenders · 09/06/2021 09:15

It appears that the Queen was not asked or told about it beforehand. It's a top story in the bbc news now.

The same article says the Queen was the first one they spoke to and they asked for her blessing and wouldn't have gone ahead with the name without it. No idea which is true, but it's certainly not an established fact that she didn't know. And what's with all these 'palace sources'? They're always making trouble it seems to me.

notalwaysalondoner · 09/06/2021 09:40

If it’s true I do think it’s terrible to name a child after the affectionate nickname of a close living relative and not ask them, especially when it will be in the public eye. In any other family that wouldn’t be seen as acceptable either. If she did agree to it however then I think it’s a lovely gesture. I guess we’ll never know as Buckingham Palave will continue to be discreet and not comment, while I wouldn’t trust what H&M said anyway. I guess I find it hard that the queen was down with a nickname as a name, my 99 year old granny would certainly say “call it Elizabeth for god’s sake, Lili or Lilibet are private nicknames”. But maybe I’m wrong.

lljkk · 09/06/2021 09:43

The Courtier who released "The queen wasn't consulted" story is trouble-making. I'd be pissed off at that Palace Source if I was member of RF.

DOINGOURBIT · 09/06/2021 09:51

Each to their own, I suppose but it's just a little odd.

If your little girl will be known as Lili- (beautiful by the way) why give her a name which springs from Elizabeth? Or why give her another name altogether? And that's apart from all the controversy within the family of late.

sunglassesonthetable · 09/06/2021 10:09

Why give her a name that springs from Elizabeth. Err because it's her GGranny's?🙄

People do this sort of thing ALL the time.

I guess recollections are varying again.
