Don't like the name lilibet at all- too nicknamey and cutesy for my tastes. Also it seems a bit odd to me to name a child after someone else's personal, pet name, I can't explain why!?

I do like Lili (or Lily) Diana though.

DappledThings · 06/06/2021 17:55

Silly. But I'm firmly in the full name for birth certificate, let a nickname evolve camp. Not a fan of either Archie or Lilibet as standalone names.

HairyToity · 06/06/2021 17:55

I prefer Lily Mountbatten-Windsor. Personally Lilibet is too saccharine.

RickiTarr · 06/06/2021 17:57

@WallaceinAnderland

Is Moutbatten-Windsor used here as a double barrelled middle name or is that their surname?
Surname.
saraclara · 06/06/2021 17:57
@saraclara you’d be annoyed at your granddaughter sharing your nickname? Seems a weird thing to be annoyed about. Both my children’s names are diminutives/contain grandparents/great grandparents names, not one of them/any of the family ever expressed anything other than happiness about it.
Lilibet isn't a standard diminutive like Susie/Jo/Lizzie. It was a name that she was called within the family and was made up for her.

Ocsetldil · 06/06/2021 17:57

Lili Diana is lovely. Although I now have Dirty Diana as an earworm.

housework1977 · 06/06/2021 17:57

Weird to use someone's nickname. No doubt they'll come out saying that no one owns the right to use that name... Grin

Aspiringmatriarch · 06/06/2021 17:58

I think it's gorgeous. I've always liked Lilibet as a nickname for the Queen, and I think it works well as a first name. Obviously subtly with names is not their thing Grin but I really do like this one.

Aspiringmatriarch · 06/06/2021 17:59

Sorry, meant to say subtlety, but subtly!

mammmamia · 06/06/2021 17:59

I think it’s dreadful, Lily Diana would have been lovely and a nod to Lilibet. Or even something like Eliza Diana

NotNowPlzz · 06/06/2021 18:00

Love it

VettiyaIruken · 06/06/2021 18:00

It's nice.

HoikingUpMyBigGirlPantss · 06/06/2021 18:01

I think its a lovely choice! Smile

TatianaBis · 06/06/2021 18:02

I can’t stand diminutives for Elizabeth whether Lilibet or Libby or Buffy. Lily or Elizabeth are fine. Prefer Lily.

Mabelene · 06/06/2021 18:03

Ridiculous.

WallaceinAnderland · 06/06/2021 18:06

Why is Harry's surname Mountbatten-Windsor? I never realised that they royals had hyphehnated surnames. Is it William's surname too?

RickiTarr · 06/06/2021 18:15

It was announced in the 60s that descendants of Elizabeth II (Windsor) and Philip (Mountbatten) could use the surname Mountbatten-Windsor when they needed one, so that’s mostly those without a title.

William & Harry were known as William Wales & Harry Wales at school and in the forces.

George & Charlotte are known as George & Charlotte Cambridge at School.

So, depending on titles and family structure, there is sometimes a choice.

whiteroseredrose · 06/06/2021 18:26

I think it's a bit silly TBH. Apparently Lilibet was what her sister called her because she was tiny and couldn't say Elizabeth. So she's stuck with a mispronunciation.

Mind you I think Harrison is daft and twee too.

Bellevu · 06/06/2021 18:35

@Longdistance

Already used for William and Katharine’s Charlotte. She is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
@longdistance

Considering Kate and William copied names from Earl Spencer (he had a Charlotte Diana first) I doubt she'd make a fuss.

I like the name but find it incredibly strange that they want to move away from royal life, call the RF racist and bad mouth Charles for his upbringing (obviously including the Queen) and subsequent treatment of his sons, but then name their daughter a very personal name from within the royal family. They couldn't have chosen a more directly connected name to the RF.

I actually love the name Lilibet, I think it's so sweet but I hate the way they're choosing the spell Lili. Tbh I don't really like names that end in i in general, but I'm really not a fan of the fact they'll be calling her Lili, just calling her Lilibet or spelling it Lily would be better.

It’s just the German spelling. 🤷🏻‍♀️
slb24 · 06/06/2021 19:48

That may be so, but I'm just not a fan! Smile

ikeepseeingit · 06/06/2021 19:48

I think it’s cute! Good for them.

LynetteScavo · 06/06/2021 19:51

@Twizbe

A few weeks back there was a poster on here asking about Lilibet for a girls name - I wonder ....

Personally I don't like it as it's a nickname not a full name, but I think the sentiment is sweet.

But tbf I don't like Archie either so I obviously have a different taste in names.

Exactly this.

I had guessed Lili (Lilly) as, like Archie, it's one of the most usual names you find in schools in very average areas in the UK where I live My money is on their next child being called Albie.
