Me and my partner like Royce but the idea of it being shorted to Roy I'm not a fan on! Does anyone know. Royce and are they called roy? Or would you call someone Royce roy?

Nn are very common at school, especially shortening. So yes at school I think it will be shortened to Roy or Rolls

FrancesFlute · 29/04/2021 09:34

Not keen at all. Think it reminds me of Boysie from Only Fools and Horses...

Blacktothepink · 29/04/2021 09:35

I know a Royce and it’s not shortened.

longwayoff · 29/04/2021 09:35

Really? Please don't, the teasing will never end.

UhtredRagnarson · 29/04/2021 09:36

He will be rolls Royce for all his days. Don’t do it to him.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 29/04/2021 09:38

Rolls Royce please no

Neonprint · 29/04/2021 09:40

Is Royce an actual name? It sounds made up sorry.

rainbowthoughts · 29/04/2021 09:45

It won't be shortened to Roy, it will be changed to rolls.

Bittersweet12 · 29/04/2021 09:59

But... you’re inviting judgment on the name, by posting here and asking for people to give opinions on what it might be shortened to or nicknamed...

Don't ask then Hmm How are we meant to know if it'll be shortened to Roy?
SugarCoatIt · 29/04/2021 10:03

I think you need to take the comments on board OP and factor this in - if you are still happy with the name then fine, but I really do think he'll be know as rolls Royce all his days.

I think if anyone does shorten the name to Roy they'll be doing him a favour.

Bittersweet12 · 29/04/2021 10:04

I asked if the name Royce would be sorted to Roy I didn't say do you like the name? To be honest I don't care what anyone thinks of any name I like there's always going to be someone who doesn't like it

And I think you really need to re read the question because I didn't ask if anyone liked the name thanks

Don’t go to Birmingham where rice is pronounced Royce. Just sayin.

Luckingfovely · 29/04/2021 10:07

I think the issue here may be finding anyone else in the world apart from you two who actually LIKES the name Grin

(Yup, you have invited comment by posting, and so to answer your question, it will be shortened, changed to Rolls, will invite lots of teasing, people will laugh at it, and it's a terrible idea) Wink

titchy · 29/04/2021 10:07

You asked whether it was likely to be shortened to Roy. Everyone answered that, by telling you it will be shortened to Rolls. No need to get arsy with people answering your question.

Bittersweet12 · 29/04/2021 10:09

HahahhahaanHhHh this is so funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I don't care if you like the name I like the name and so do my friends and family

Royce reminds me of Royston Vasey 🤣🤣

BiBabbles · 29/04/2021 10:16

It's a strong possibility that it will be shortened by others, or even by him, to Roy or Rolls or other nicknames. Nicknames are one of those things that are pretty out of our hands once they get around others or get opinions on their name.

I would call someone by how they introduced themselves, so I wouldn't call someone who said their name was Royce Roy, though if someone else was talking about a Royce, I might hear Roy's depending on the situation and accent.

Pedalpushers · 29/04/2021 10:22

People on here are so weird. So what if people call a kid Rolls Royce? It's hardly going to scar someone for life. You could call a kid David and someone at school would decide to call him shithead, I really don't get the obsession with what kids at school might say. A girl at my school was called Katherine and people decided it was hilarious to call her Beverley for gods sake.

I wouldn't shorten Royce as it's already one syllable. Some people might but you do have some control over nicknames - people have started off shortening my name my whole life and have always stopped after I asked them not to.

I prefer Roy to Royce - it has a nice vintagey feel

CartTriesToDriveTheHorse · 29/04/2021 10:30

I don’t think it will be shortened to Roy but he will be called Rolls, Rolls Royce, Royston Vasey etc...

While you haven’t asked for opinions on the name I think it’s fair for people to say it’s an awful name. I would expect someone to tell me if I was about to drive my car off a cliff and wouldn’t snap at them that I only asked if the sea was up ahead.
