Baby girl names you don't hear often

Due a Baby Girl in June and really struggling with names I like, a lot of the names I did like such as Sophia, Mia and Orla have been taken by friends / family.

I do like Alba, Verity, Luna, Flora, Nova and Polly (my DH hates the last three!).

Any other suggestions?

Love Polly, one of my favourites. There are quite a lot of Lunas and Floras and Nova makes me think of Vauxhalls.

Why not go for something exciting? What does DH like?

I like Alba but it's a new political party so probably best to avoid now!

How about June? That's pretty uncommon now.

Luna and Nova are extremely popular near me (NW).

It tends to be unfashionable names that are more unusual at the moment. Oddly Margaret and Mary are quite popular too. But Sarah, Caroline, Winifred, Susanna, Gabrielle, Nicole, Sally, Laura, Lauren etc are all names I’ve only heard once recently and they are all babies or toddlers.

Popular at the moment Audrey, Evelyn, Isla, Freya, Evie/Eva, Ava, Aria, Arya, Lara, Willow, Thea etc.

If you want to sound on trend but less likely to have a duplicate in class - Thora, Cora, Cara, Laurel, Hazel, Thalia, Dahlia, Natalia, Alma, Honor, Esther.

Verity is nice. If you like Polly how about Sally or Molly? Haven’t come across a little Molly for years. Same for Ruby, Scarlett etc.

Luna is quite popular. Therefore not the name you're looking for if you want something less heard of.

It’s named after the Gaelic word for Scotland. And Alba is a standard girl’s name in other countries like Spain. Plus not to get political but new parties often don’t have longevity. So I wouldn’t be put off with that.

What about Eula - to my ear so.much nicer than Luna and Alba.

I don't think you can choose a name your DH hates, Luna is quite common, and Alba is really ugly IMO. I'd go for Verity.

Esme and Astrid seem to be getting quite popular round here. If you want something unusual, download the full names spreadsheet for ONS. Anything outside the top 100 should be relatively unusual and anything over the top 300 is very unusual.
