Baby girl due in a few weeks and we are getting closer to a name but not there yet! I did post a shortlist a couple of months ago and feedback was helpful so thank you.

(I will caveat this by saying our taste is very much old fashioned names which we know won't be for everyone!)

Middle name will be Juniper with all the first name options.

Norah
Nancy
Mavis
Dorothy (Dot/Dottie)
Winnifred

When we were expecting our DD we were torn between Ada and Norah. We adored both but chose Ada in the end as that was the one we fell in love with first. I also like Elsie

The only one I don't like on your list is Nancy (though I know two under 1 so it is loved by many)

Norah - beautiful and a name we considered. I had a university lecturer called Nora and she was such a strong lady, slightly quirky. She made me love the name more

Mavis - love this but I couldn't get it past dh.

Dorothy (Dot/Dottie) - dd1s middle name. Love it and love Dot but not as keen on Dottie

Winnifred - love it though spelt Winifred but couldn't get it past dh either.

I think from your list I'd go with Mavis or Dorothy

We also considered Enid, Ethel and Sibyl too if you want anymore options haha

I like Dorothy (or Dorothea).

For vintage names, I would also suggest Rosemary, Rosalind, Sylvia (love this), Pamela, Barbara, Audrey. Jean is nice for a middle name.

Winifred is definitely your worst choice, very frumpy. Not sure why - maybe because it has 'fred' in it. But 'winnie' is also an unattractive sound. Pretty sure it only has one 'n' BTW.

A pp mentioned Queen Victoria's daughters' names. They were actually surprisingly modern:

Victoria

Alice

Helena (not pronounced the English way as in Helena Bonham Carter, I presume, as her family nickname was 'Lenchen'.)

Louise (not Louisa, which we think of as more Victorian. I think this is due to Q Vic's European connections. She basically was not that English!)

Beatrice
