Baby girl due in a few weeks and we are getting closer to a name but not there yet! I did post a shortlist a couple of months ago and feedback was helpful so thank you.

(I will caveat this by saying our taste is very much old fashioned names which we know won't be for everyone!)

Middle name will be Juniper with all the first name options.

Norah
Nancy
Mavis
Dorothy (Dot/Dottie)
Winnifred

Peggy!

I have fallen in love with Peggy as a name lately.

Really love Nancy too.

Winnifred looks wrong. Winifred looks better.

I like Nora from your list but I actually really love juniper and would consider bumping that up to first choice if that's an option?

As someone with a name that has been mentioned, I absolutely hated having an old fashioned name. I really envied my friends having pretty or modern names. I still dislike it now, I might have grown into it in about forty years.
The only vintage names I quite like are Audrey, Cicely and Beatrice.

wellthatsunusual · 10/01/2021 22:47

One of my favourite old fashioned names is Martha.

Love Norah, my dd is Emily and I wish wish wish I had called her Millicent ( now her nn) just sounds like such a strong name.

steppemum · 10/01/2021 23:26

Does no-one else remember Nora Batty?

Could not use the name Nora as it reminds me of her.
And Nancy makes me think of Nancy Reagan.
I grew up with Nancy Drew, which was very cool, expect her name wasn't, ever!

Juniper is so pretty and unusual and the Granny names you have mentioned just.... aren't.

There are pretty Granny names, many of which are very popular now. Lots of nice ones mentioned on this thread. I just don't think any on your list are among them.

LovelyBranches · 10/01/2021 23:35

How about Wallis? I think Wallis Juniper sounds lovely.

MercyBodle · 11/01/2021 04:38

What the actual fuck is “Winnifred”?? Your kid is going to get instantly bullied and come home crying everyday mate, reconsider ever having kids.

Don’t be silly. Winifred - one N - is a normal name, though not common for babies these days.
Bitbusyattheminute · 12/01/2021 20:12

The saint is spelled Winefride. I think i like the way it looks better than winifred.

Another one (which I’m not keen on) came to mind when I was thinking of Siouxie and the Banshees)...they had a song called ‘Dear Prudence’ (which I think was originally a Beatles song).

Prudence/Prue

Another old Victoria-era name was Louise and Louisa

I guess you could look up all the names given to the daughters of Queen Victoria :)

Saffzy · 12/01/2021 20:42

I like Norah and Nancy off your list.
