GIRLS:

Pollie - Polly ok
Posie - no
Maebel - Mabel ok
Thalia - nice
Iris - nice
Nuala - nice

BOYS:

Jaxson - awful
Lockie - awful

hardtimeuphere · 16/12/2020 20:43

Like Thalia and Reid

Piggyhoolier · 16/12/2020 20:46

Love Nuala. Most of your girls names are pretty. Your misspelling of a couple of others is not to my taste. I’m also not so keen on your boy choices, but I equally wouldn’t find them odd or out of place.

buckeejit · 16/12/2020 21:01

Another vote for don't misspell

Mabel & Polly are nice. Look at your parents, gp, gp etc for inspiration

Viviennemary · 16/12/2020 21:06

Iris is very nice.not keen on the strange spellings of the boys names.

Cattenberg · 16/12/2020 21:12

I like Iris, Nuala and Reid.

I’m not Irish, and have only met one Nuala (a baby), so the name doesn’t sound dated to me.

CorianderQueen · 16/12/2020 21:20

I like Maebel - that's it

LottieDot · 16/12/2020 21:45

I like Iris and Reid.

Nore · 16/12/2020 21:51

It’s hilarious to see all the love for Nuala. It’s your great-auntie’s name, the equivalent of Madge, Gladys, Edna or Mavis.

Zeetah · 16/12/2020 21:54

Dislike the boys ones

The girls ones are fine but I would use the proper spelling eg Polly, Mabel

SionnachRua · 16/12/2020 21:57

I know right? Can't get over it.

Can also never hear it without hearing Frank Kelly say "Listen here manure face" in my head Grin

OffredOfjune · 16/12/2020 21:59

I like Thalia and Iris, but none of the others.

Mammaaof · 16/12/2020 22:00

I don't think any of them are unusual

Nore · 16/12/2020 23:28

@SionnachRua, my eight year old encountered it for the first time this year and has adopted ‘Listen here, manure face.’

If Nuala is now becoming Granny Chic, perhaps Gobnait, Attracta and Bridie will follow... Grin

Pollie - not spelled that way. Polly however is lovely.
Posie - not spelled that way. And too , Ballet Shoes for me.
Maebel - not spelled that way. Mabel is nice.
Thalia - nice
Iris - lovely
Nuala - future pronunciation issues. No.

Jaxson - super common, and terrible spelling of the name. No.
Lockie- no. Imagine being an adult man with this as a name. Lachlan is better, then you can use this a nickname. (Again with the spelling).
Reid - best of the three.

Aquamarine1029 · 16/12/2020 23:56

Don't care for any of the girls names.

Lockie is horrible, but I like Lock because I know one and he is lovely. The other boy's names are awful.

How about...

Hudson
Austin
Carter

laurielo · 17/12/2020 01:43

Thank you all for your comments

I was so intrigued to see what people would say and my guesses were correct, 100% understand why people are saying about the different spelling although I feel like having it spelt a different way has no bearing on the child.

I love the names more now other people don't like them as I feel like the spellings won't become popular, honestly we take no offence to the comments, our fave is Pollie and Jaxson, I don't like the way 'Polly' looks just like I prefer - Lucie to Lucy and Daisie to Daisy, I suppose it's just preference and the way we love the 'ie' at the end of our names

My partner has a normal too 5 boy name and has spelt it different, so just carrying on tradition

Thank you everyone for the other suggestions I've added a few to my list 🥰

Maebel - as my middle name is Mae so that's the twist on that one but I do know mabels and I love that way of spelling

Hate Lachlan - not keen on Scottish names

Thank youuu

Love Nuala too, only problem would be anyone reading it if they didn't know of the name would they pronounce nu-A-la?

@Stepintochristmas

Please don’t spell them wrong. It looks so ridiculous. You’re trying to make perfectly nice, normal names appear quirky. It’s a child, not a pet dog.
I don't think Maebel is too quirky but thank you, my dog is called Peter so no dog names around here, haha, but thank you for commenting X
