Irrational name dislikes

Flappingflamingo · 21/08/2020 17:47

I'm not pregnant, have 3 children and not having any more, but I love baby names. My best friend is having a baby soon and so have spent a lot of time recently talking and thinking about names. I've come to realise that there are some names that I really really can't stand and for absolutely no apparent reason at all.
I would like to apologise to anyone and everyone, I really don't mean to offend anyone but I just can't help it or have any reason for it, but here are some of mine to start with - you notice a theme!! 😂 😂
Poppy
Ruby
Scarlet
Rowan
Anyone have any?

All my childrens names are on here!!, i really hate connor but thats because i had a child called that when i worked in a nursery and he was absolutely awful!

MikeUniformMike · 21/08/2020 21:04

Darcey.
Just horrible. Celebrity inspired, and not her real first name.
Same goes for Rihanna.

WoahBodyforrrm · 21/08/2020 21:05

Ooh and Ronnie and Reggie (particularly when used together and yes, unbelievably this does happen more often then you’d believe. I see it for myself on some of the twin pages/forums I’m on).

WoahBodyforrrm · 21/08/2020 21:06

Sapphire

Napqueen1234 · 21/08/2020 21:06

I hate a lot of modern boys names. Logan, Jason, Mason etc. Glad I had two girls!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 21/08/2020 21:06

Right.

Now the full bingo card except my name

DDog (old lady name but I love it-no regrets)
DH (very nice name and was surprised to see it)
DS1 (recently featured on a thread about how lovely it was as a name)
DS2 (he's 22-was fine when I named him but now naughty boy name?)
DD (always appears on the names I like but couldn't so not surprised)

sigh

mathanxiety · 21/08/2020 21:08

I agree with probably 95 percent of these.

Also dislike Seth.

Lubeylube · 21/08/2020 21:11

Rachel. Such a harsh name, sounds like someone is coughing something up when they say it

MikeUniformMike · 21/08/2020 21:12

Jason isn't modern

Disco91 · 21/08/2020 21:27

Riley
Xavier
Harley

But I have a beautiful boy Archie.... going off the comments here I’ve failed him with his name Sad

fuckingcovid · 21/08/2020 21:28

Logan, Kayden, Jayden
and anything 'normal' spelt in an abnormal way

Thefaceofboe · 21/08/2020 21:33

@Disco91 Not at all if you love it (and clearly a lot of people do as it’s popular) Grin

Flappingflamingo · 21/08/2020 21:34

Sebandalice
I did say it was irrational dislike and therefore no malice was ever intended. I even apologised in my first post and said I didn't mean any offence to anyone. Thankfully most people understood that and have taken it in the lighthearted manner it was intended. Samuel (my sons name) and grace (dd1's) middle name have been mentioned and it's absolutely fine by me, not everyone can like the same names, be a very boring world if we all had the same name... In fact my name has been mentioned albeit a different spelling and again I'm fine with it, I find it funny. But again I apologise to anyone and everyone, I didn't mean to dislike any of your names

There's the full house! DH, both DC and me. Plus one DC middle name.

TeetotalKoala · 21/08/2020 21:38

On the back of me mentioning I know a Poppie. I also know a Rylee. He and his mother are every inch the horror you can imagine.

As I said above, I've got the full house. I've not been offended either. Different strokes and all that.
veryveryirrational · 21/08/2020 21:43

Why are people getting worked up over this thread?

You can dislike and even hate a name and there's nothing wrong with it. As long as you are not directly insulting or bullying someone over their name or their DC name I don't see the harm.

wewillmeetagain · 21/08/2020 21:46

Isla- so drippy sounding
Jaxon- hideous
Olivia- sounds like a disease

formerbabe · 21/08/2020 21:47

Yes it's fine and I don't think it's judgmental either. I said up thread that I dislike the name Oscar, I recognize thats my personal preference, I don't think anything about parents who choose that name beyond the fact they do like that name.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 21/08/2020 21:48

disconnecteddrifter · 21/08/2020 21:49

I like clementine and clemmie for short and love rex now I have seen it on here!
Hate safe names
Elizabeth and all the Nns. So boring, massively common
Anne/anna/annie see above
Sarah, Susan, jane - showing my age but very common in my peer group
Keith, Kevin, Gary, nigel - really?
Stephen, Thomas, matthew, john etc same reasons as elizabeth and anne

Mrsfussypants1 · 21/08/2020 21:49

For me it's Heidi and Ava, the names of children in my circle. When friends announced them I had that urgh moment, I became my mother.

33goingon64 · 21/08/2020 21:50

OP, do you have a problem with the colour red?! My list would have mostly the popular boys names from 30-50 years ago: Nigel, Graham, Barry etc but I don't think they count in a discussion on current baby names. I have always disliked:

Stephanie
Natalie
Charlotte
Victoria
Harriet
Nick/Nicola

I know so many Isabelles/Isabellas/Izzys/Isobels/Isabels, I find I go a bit 😤 when I meet yet another one, but I don't dislike the name really.
