Irrational name dislikes

I'm not pregnant, have 3 children and not having any more, but I love baby names. My best friend is having a baby soon and so have spent a lot of time recently talking and thinking about names. I've come to realise that there are some names that I really really can't stand and for absolutely no apparent reason at all.
I would like to apologise to anyone and everyone, I really don't mean to offend anyone but I just can't help it or have any reason for it, but here are some of mine to start with - you notice a theme!! 😂 😂
Poppy
Ruby
Scarlet
Rowan
Anyone have any?

I'm gonna annoy people I say I just dont like popular names. Like names in the top 10.. Olivia and Oliver bother me just because they are so same old. They are pretty and sweet but bleugh. My name is Isobel and I hate how it's got really really popular is recent years in all its variations.
I just feel like part of a crowd.

ifiwasascent · 21/08/2020 21:58

Hannah
Aidan
Caleb
Kai
Any names starting with K actually
Anything ending in Den

Shayisgreat · 21/08/2020 22:06

Arlo and Amelia. I just don't like the names at all!

I find myself rolling my eyes at Finn as well but I'm not sure why.

Shayisgreat · 21/08/2020 22:09

I also dislike Charlie and Ella. No reason, I just don't like them.

greendress789 · 21/08/2020 22:19

Granny names like Maud and Wilfred.

Also hate Archie and Alfie.

Anything hyphenated such as Ellie-Mae.

Anything that doesn’t sound like a proper name. I agree with the Jayden, Cayden hater.

Flappingflamingo · 21/08/2020 22:32

@33goingon64
Whilst I don't dislike the colour red, it most certainly isn't my favourite colour and I definitely seem to have a dislike of names associated with it! And I have an Isabel too, in fact she's the one with the middle name grace!!! 😂 😂 😂 😂 Only daughter number 2, child number 3 to go!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Harrison. I hate it. My least favourite name ever. No idea why though I don’t generally like surnames as first names. Unfortunately one of DHs brothers named his son this.
Jaxon
Jayden/ Kayden etc
Kai
Toby

On the other hand I really love George and would have named DD this if she’d been a boy.

I cant really think of any girls names I irrationally hate.

wizzler · 21/08/2020 22:44

I think Clover is a cow and Tabitha is a cat.
I don't like Percy or Pearl or Ruby but I don't know why!

Tillygetsit · 21/08/2020 22:55

Sorry in advance. Mo reasoning behind this just irrationally dislike these names
Sidney/Sydney
Arthur
Stewart
Grayson
Maude
Lucy
Verity

Mashingthecompost · 21/08/2020 22:59

Isaac. Zachary. Lily. Amelia. Jace. (Jace ffs, where did that come from?) Sophie. Ruby. Charlie. Alfie. Gracie. All the names ending in eeeeee that like PP said just need to not be like weird descriptors. 'Grace is a bit... Grace-y isn't she?' There are exceptions to this rule and they're generally names not in the top 100. I honestly wonder what thought process people have when they choose a name 87 other babies will have been given in the hospital that week, but I am a name collector too and used to hate other people having the same name as me.

I kinda love Imogen, but I have an extended family member with that name who's an old lady now and I've loved it ever since I was a kid and first heard it.

My name's on here and honestly, it's just nice to see it turn up on a list for once.

Skyla2005 · 21/08/2020 22:59

Oliver Jackson Freddie
Lily Ellie darcy

Bunnybigears · 21/08/2020 23:01

Joshua I cant even bring myself to say it

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 21/08/2020 23:07

This is such a shitty thread- literally all my family's names are on here, even the bloody dogs name is hated!

So, for the record, and on behalf of all the people whose names are on here: I think your names are shite too!

RuthW · 21/08/2020 23:14

Jessica

Any half a name such as Tommy, Albie, Alfie, Archie, Ronnie, Freddy, Reggie etc

Ethan and Nathan

Lily

Abigail

Dawn

Bubbletrouble43 · 21/08/2020 23:16

Don't worry Angelica, all 3 of my dc and all 3 dsc and Dps names have been mentioned. Even our surname is here! Couldn't care less. Though I am a little smug that my name isn't here despite being fairly popular!

Happymum12345 · 22/08/2020 00:35

I would really love to know the names of the all the posters children on here saying what names they hate. I can just imagine ...

PortugalPlace · 22/08/2020 00:59

Totally agree AngelicaElizaAndPeggy
This is such an unnecessary, shitty thread full of snobby comments and mean girl vibes.
I think mumsnet is sometimes accused of crapping on others and for having a horrible snotty vibe and this is shown here.

Yep. Mine too-all here including dog and surname. Even DD's middle name.

Just a bit unnecessary really.

Luckily my cat is called Pixie so she hasn't made the list yet

loudev · 22/08/2020 08:49

Reuben. Don't like it. It's not "boyish" I like boy names for boys... strong names.

MsTSwift · 22/08/2020 08:57

Don’t see it as particularly bad it’s fine to irrationally dislike a name am sure others don’t like my kids names.

My good friends dd is called Sophie a name I have disliked since I was a child as it reminds me of the word soppy. I am pretty sure she doesn’t like dd2s name either - no matter we all have different tastes and that’s a good thing.

Enterthedragons · 22/08/2020 08:59

Ava/Eva/Ella/Ellie etc etc
Grace
Olivia/Oliver
Sophie/Sophia
Anything hyphenated with May/Mae/Mai

Just all so very very dull and overused.

Wolfgirrl · 22/08/2020 09:01

If anyone is taking offence over someone saying they don't like a name, you need a thicker skin.

I've seen my daughter's name pop up on these threads again and again, as well as my own!

Surely you cant expect every person in the world to love your name choices. And if you do, why click on these threads?

babynamelover · 22/08/2020 09:01

This thread is kind of pointless...

It's not really positive, helpful or supportive in anyway....
