Irrational name dislikes

Flappingflamingo · 21/08/2020 17:47

I'm not pregnant, have 3 children and not having any more, but I love baby names. My best friend is having a baby soon and so have spent a lot of time recently talking and thinking about names. I've come to realise that there are some names that I really really can't stand and for absolutely no apparent reason at all.
I would like to apologise to anyone and everyone, I really don't mean to offend anyone but I just can't help it or have any reason for it, but here are some of mine to start with - you notice a theme!! 😂 😂
Poppy
Ruby
Scarlet
Rowan
Anyone have any?

Primrose

MsTSwift · 21/08/2020 20:31

I detest cutesy fluffy names for girls

Poppy
Daisy
Honey Etc

Awful! They will be adult women one day looking to be credible saddled with these wet baby names

Wolfgirrl · 21/08/2020 20:34

@MsTSwift

I call them the scullery maid names! Daisy, Bluebell, Elsie, Marnie, Mae, etc

Although I think Poppy is pretty, and not too 'little girly'.

Happy to see my daughter's name (although not overly rare) hasn't been mentioned yet!

MsTSwift · 21/08/2020 20:37

Clement / Clementine are ancient names (pope Clement 88AD) the fruit was named after the name in the 19th century so the name is not “a fruit” as per an erroneous earlier post

Hate these threads they pop up now and then. Thankfully they are deleted relatively quickly.

HarrietM87 · 21/08/2020 20:39

Surnames as first names. Just can’t stand it! They’re all absolutely awful but Jaxon spelled that way is probably the worst.

seriousandloyal · 21/08/2020 20:41

OP do you dislike the colours red and purple? All the names you said you hated at first are associated with red!

abigailthespiderinthehat · 21/08/2020 20:42

My husbands name has been mentioned in most of the posts and now my name has come up too! I personally think I have a fabulous rare first name and I love it! 😁 So far none of my kids names have come up 🤣🤞

formerbabe · 21/08/2020 20:42

Lexi...shudder. ditto Lacey

Harrison

lampshadery · 21/08/2020 20:43

Sarah is my worst girl name - it's always struck me as just so boring and unimaginative.

Also:

Jessica
Nikita
Samantha
Gemma
Kelly

Peter
Rory
Kieran
Luke
Daniel
Elliot
Jude

MikeUniformMike · 21/08/2020 20:43

I think I dislike most of the names listed but I echo the OT names.

Some are ok but Eli, Ezra, Seth, Levi, Micah, Jonah etc are just weird if you aren't religious.
Delilah and Lilith - just no, really.

All the long frilly girl's names.

Amelia, Aurelia, Ophelia, Auwowa esp. with the nn Wowy, Ottilie, etc
Just too frilly

Names like Ariana Juliana, Valeriana - all you hear is the -AH-nuh bit

Greek goddess type names

I tend not to like long names for boys either.

Occupation surnames or -son or Mac- surnames as first names.

Cutie names like Alfie and Archie.

All the Eva, Ava .... type names and the Belle and Ella ones, and the El- names, especially misspelt horrors like Elouise.

Norah/Nora

Irish names if not irish, or Welsh names if not welsh, french if not french etc.

The names that are so popular that they become meh.

One Ava or Freya and I think, yeah ok that's quite nice but lots of them and the name seems dull.

I like names like John and Helen or something, but on here they'd need to be Johnathon [sic] or Helena on the bc just in case my DC were going to be High Court Judges which quite frankly was unlikely given the genes they got

Why?

My DS’s name is on here more than once, and I’ve seen DD’s name ripped apart on Baby Name threads a few times as well. Genuinely doesn’t bother me, it’s better everyone having different tastes than using the same ten or so names like it’s the 1850s or something.

formerbabe · 21/08/2020 20:44

My name is on here and my ds name. Doesn't bother me at all

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/08/2020 20:50

Arthur. Just don’t get the hype at all. It’s not even a cutesy adorable old man type name like Percy, Cedric or Herbert for example.
Jenson.
Sadie
Eve.
Harrison
Brodie
Nancy
Madison
Jenna.
Rose
Evelyn.
Callum.
Harry
Amber
Isla.
Ella
Mason
Esther

Good - so many judgmental people - FFS get a life 🙄

veryveryirrational · 21/08/2020 20:52

My first name has been mentioned multiple times (I go by my middle though) as I hate my first name too like a lot of you on this thread 😂

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/08/2020 20:53

Charlie.
Jack.

Keepyourconversationsboring · 21/08/2020 20:54

Jaxon is up there definitely. And the Hayden / Jayden / Kayden / Peyton / Leighton / Dayton ones. Kayleigh, Kirsty, Chantelle, Crystal, Chanel too. And Kai, Casey, KlayConfused

And Alfie. The most average there is.

And Bonnie & Connie. The worst being Bonnie-Mai, Connie-May, anything 'may'

NannyR · 21/08/2020 20:56

James - totally irrational as it's such a well liked, popular classic name and I like other, similar biblical names like Peter, John and Andrew , but I find James really boring, bland and unimaginative.

eatsleepbreastfeedrepeat · 21/08/2020 20:57

Jenson - I’ve never met one who isn’t a trouble maker

Scarlett

Teddy - doesn’t age at all

Wishfulthinking1977 · 21/08/2020 21:00

I've seen my gs name come up about 10 times!! 😂😂 Unfortunately my dd couldn't find 1 boys name she liked! So went for one that they both didn't mind and didn't know anyone else called it! Now expecting her 2nd and if it's another boy it may be nameless!! 🤣🤣 Xx
