Please please say I can have Clementine

Hi MNers

A few years ago I posted asking whether I should name my baby Clementine. The answers were a resounding no.
I'm now back again, because I clearly can't take a hint.
So...our surname is Harrowdyne. Can I use Clementine (ending 'tyne' ) or am I once again deluding myself?
Feel free to hand me a grip if I need it.
Thanks!!

Clementine Harrow sounds fabulous!
If only I could change the surname!

LOVE Clementine! I would personally avoid rhyming names though

averythinline · 01/07/2020 15:27

Of course you can, love Clementine and I think it balances a long surname well ....

averythinline · 01/07/2020 15:30

The only clementine I know -who is lovely- got called Em at school 🙄 but not out of it ... fab name

Edenember · 01/07/2020 15:33

@IdentifyasTired I think if you really love it go for it... however you did mention earlier that you HATE that it rhymes with the surname ... quite a strong word, that issue isn’t going to go away and sounds like it bothers you in itself (validation or lack of from other people aside). Unless you double barrel the surname? Is that possible?

han01uk · 01/07/2020 15:41

I also love the name. Although pronounced Clemen-teen may work better with your surname? I love clemmie for short

OrlandoInTheWilderness · 01/07/2020 15:47

I love it OP!!

IdentifyasTired · 01/07/2020 15:58

Double barrelling is not an option. Our other daughters have just the one surname. We couldn’t deviate from that.
I guess I don’t HATE that it rhymes, more that the rhyming may cause raised eyebrows and sniggering.
Hence why I wanted to canvass opinion and get as wide a reaction as possible.
I think Clementine Harrodine sounds fine but I need to know what the wider world may think. Shallow perhaps? But that’s the truth.

Thanks Orlando!!

Honestly - it’s nothing that would cause anyone to snigger. Even if it’s the “tyne” rhyme for both parts, the worst you’d say is that it’s a little bit of a mouthful. And people would get used to it and then it would just sound completely normal (if that makes sense?).

IdentifyasTired · 01/07/2020 17:09

I so hope you’re right Natalia!

How about double barrelled Clementine with something else e.g. Clementine-Rose (but obviously not Rose as you already have one). Then it won't rhyme.

If you love it, go with it! You don't always hear the surname and when you do, so what. I've heard weirder.

Harpischord · 01/07/2020 20:49

Its a beautiful name but not with the surname. Can you change the surname?

stophuggingme · 01/07/2020 20:54

Such a mouthful
Lovely first name and surname but sounds like a character from Riders or some such guff

stophuggingme · 01/07/2020 20:55

*but together being the critical omission Shock

bumblebeefairy · 01/07/2020 21:06

I think it actually goes quite nicely with your surname. Plus you've been thinking about this now for years.... use Clementine! If your daughter feels strongly otherwise when she's older (unlikely) she can go with a shortening of Clementine, or may choose to change her surname anyhow. Go for it!

Dieu · 01/07/2020 21:16

No. Sorry! The name is very twee and doesn't go with your surname.
You could shorten it to Clemmie, I guess, but it's still twee!

PetraRabbit · 01/07/2020 21:28

It's hard to find a name you fall in love with. Just use it or I feel you'll regret your compromise name.

sleepyhead · 01/07/2020 21:56

Clementine, Clementina, Clemency are all lovely. And i think they go fine with your name.

I think the rhyming thing is less of a deal when the name is longer.

Shortbrunette90 · 01/07/2020 21:59

You name her what you like! I know someone called David Davis so who cares lol

MrsKingfisher · 01/07/2020 22:02

I love it! Lovely name who cares if it rhymes is long etc etc, if you love it use it.

DoTheMaccaroni · 02/07/2020 00:13

Another one here to say I love it! I’m not actually fond of the name Clementine as it’s not my style but I love how it sounds with your last name. I love alliteration and rhyming Smile

MondayYogurt · 02/07/2020 09:44

I mean what's the worst that can happen? It's hardly at Zowie Bowie levels.

Whatsyourflava · 02/07/2020 10:28

It's a lovely name and tune with your surname. If someone were to find the slight rhyming funny I'd seriously question their sense of humour to be honest. Sounds like a normal name to me. You will know this as you already have kids but each year there's increasingly more and more of children being given extremely unusual names. There 2 boys called Fox at our school. I've met one called Wolf. One called Star and one called Apollo. All sorts. No one will bat an eyelid at Clementine with your surname
