I love it, DH just did this Confused

Obviously I can’t use it but does anyone else like Hero as a girls’ name or is it objectively awful?

”I really hate all those Princess, Champ, Tiger, Bear type names, they're ludicrous.”

I really don’t thunk Hero fits into the same category as those...

bridgetreilly · 02/06/2020 21:16

I really like it, OP.

Maybe Hebe, if you can't persuade your DP?

daisypond · 02/06/2020 21:16

I really hate all those Princess, Champ, Tiger, Bear type names, they're ludicrous.
But it’s not a name of that type at all.

AlwaysAnotherName · 02/06/2020 21:18

Not a fan, but it's not terrible.

MrsHardbroom · 02/06/2020 21:18

Love it, and also love Juno which somehow feels similar.

Fishfingersandwichplease · 02/06/2020 21:19

Don't like it for boy or girl....putting pressure on them from the minute they are being! Sorry x

Blueemeraldagain · 02/06/2020 21:21

I actually really like it (although Shakespeare’s Hero is a bit wet) but I wouldn’t use it because it does give a bad first impression, is pretentious and a lot to live up to.

Hermione shortened to Hero could work though.

2bazookas · 02/06/2020 21:25

I do like it, but I think she'll spend her life having to explain it.

How abour Hera

"Hera as a girl's name is of Greek origin meaning "queen". In mythology, Hera (Juno to the Romans) was the Greek Queen of Heaven, wife of Zeus.

AliasGrape · 02/06/2020 21:27

I love it, DH has vetoed. Much like your DH, mine’s favourite girls’ name is Elizabeth so we’ve both got a way to go to get to a middle we can meet at!

InfiniteSheldon · 02/06/2020 21:27

It absolutely is a name like Champ Princess Bear Confused

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 02/06/2020 21:29

Ah yes, I forgot Shakespeare's tragic masterpiece, Champ and Princess.

LavenderLilacTree · 02/06/2020 21:34

No because most people would n know about the Shakespeare thing and will just think it's a Yoonique or pretentious name about being a hero. What if the child is very shy?

Boxerbinky · 02/06/2020 21:34

My niece has recently called her daughter Hero. It's beautiful and really suits her.

AlwaysAnotherName · 02/06/2020 21:45

@InfiniteSheldon

It absolutely is a name like Champ Princess Bear Confused
Not really. It's been a name for many years in some cultures. Princess, Champ and Bear are just random words that people have turned into names.
GarlicSoup · 02/06/2020 21:46

Love it

maddymellow · 02/06/2020 21:50

Haha, I do quite like Bear too! Blush Def wouldn't use that though, but Hero is Greek and Shakespearean so it has a bit of a "history".

It's def not happening though, and he won't have Juno, Hermione or Hebe either (great suggestions!)

His suggestions: Jennifer, Amy, Gemma, Lucy, Caroline, Georgina... I suggested Viola but he wasn't keen, and he was neutral on Violet and Autumn, which I suggested even though I don't love them.

villamariavintrapp · 02/06/2020 21:57

I think it's too much to live up to. Juno would be a good compromise between Hero and Jennifer?

maddymellow · 02/06/2020 21:59

I'm not allowed Juno either unfortunately, or Juniper (gin)

SoftBlocks · 02/06/2020 22:00

Awful.

CheesePleaseLoueese · 02/06/2020 22:05

I love it too! Classical and simple

JayAlfredPrufrock · 02/06/2020 22:08

Calypso.

Or Helena.

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 02/06/2020 22:09

No. Don't saddle your child with a trendy name just to suit your whim.

pontiouspilates · 02/06/2020 22:10

Love it. Classic and beautiful

jokolo · 02/06/2020 22:11

I love it!

I love Hero Wantage in Friday's Child, too.

Lockdownlooks · 02/06/2020 22:12

Too much to live up to.
