I love it, DH just did this Confused

Obviously I can’t use it but does anyone else like Hero as a girls’ name or is it objectively awful?

See, I'm not mad! I know it's not for everyone but he looked at me like I had two heads or something when I mentioned I liked it Grin

His favourite name is Jennifer, so we're going to have to meet in the middle somewhere...

Hate it, too pretentious

WhatWouldDominicDo · 02/06/2020 20:42

It's one of those names that's a lot to live up to!

WhoWants2Know · 02/06/2020 20:44

Love the play, I would happily use the name. Bonus points if there's also a Beatrice in the picture.

Orphlids · 02/06/2020 20:49

Hero is one of those name that when it’s suggested on here, some respondents write things like, “Well, why don’t you change your own name to Hero and see how you like it?!” as though you would certainly have the most hideous experience of your life. I don’t understand why some people assume that just because they don’t like a name, no one else could find joy in it. I would LOVE to be named Hero, or any of the other unusual names on my list. All you can do when naming a child is to choose something you adore, and something you would love to be named yourself. (And, probably, something that will look more at home on a CV than a prison roll call.)

Redwinestillfine · 02/06/2020 20:51

I don't like it for either sorry....

DanniArthur · 02/06/2020 20:51

I know a lovely Japanese akita named Hero so in my mind it's a dog's name. Sorry!

elliejjtiny · 02/06/2020 20:53

My boy cat is called that. We spell it Hiro though.

AdaColeman · 02/06/2020 20:53

I love it, but sadly never had a daughter to use it for.

Buzzfrightyears · 02/06/2020 20:54

There’s a book about a girl called Hero called Little Fearless.

NotNowPlzz · 02/06/2020 20:56

The only Hero I've ever known in life absolutely despised her name, but then she was about 11 so I don't know if her opinion changed over the years. I'm a fan of unusual names, and of girls' names ending in o (Juno, Rio) but I can't get on board with Hero.

NeverTrustASmilingCat · 02/06/2020 20:59

The graphic novels Y: The Last Man have the main character called Yorick and his sister is called Hero.

whenwillthemadnessend · 02/06/2020 21:00

Yes it's fab

daisypond · 02/06/2020 21:00

I really like it.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 02/06/2020 21:01

I love it! For the Shakespeare and Heyer references. It was on my list but DH vetoed it.

Elliemayclampett · 02/06/2020 21:01

No

Thisismytimetoshine · 02/06/2020 21:03

It's awful, for either sex! I really hate all those Princess, Champ, Tiger, Bear type names, they're ludicrous.

maddiemookins16mum · 02/06/2020 21:03

Don’t do it.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 02/06/2020 21:04

I love it.
How do you feel about Hermione? Just thinking Hero could conceivably be a NN for that...

passthemustard · 02/06/2020 21:04

My DD has Hero as her middle name. I've always loved it.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 02/06/2020 21:07

I like it, but wouldn't be brave enough. Also, Hero in Much Ado is a bit rubbish. Beatrice is the character to be named for!

bumblebeefairy · 02/06/2020 21:07

I am sorry, I wouldn't say if you hadn't asked but I think it's really awful, sorry. I agree with the suggestion above about Hermoine.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 02/06/2020 21:08

Awful.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 02/06/2020 21:08

Hero as a nickname for Hermione is an awesome idea!!

Prettylittlelady · 02/06/2020 21:11

I like it but not enough to use it because it’s just so much to live up to. As a middle perhaps?
