Context;
DH is Jewish, I’m not. Looking at Hebrew names that are distinctive without being completely out there 👍

Phonetic pronunciation is “shosh-AH-nah“.
Sounds like “shoh-shanna”

Try not to be too mean as I really like this one!🤣

I'm sorry but it sounds like a drunk Scottish person slurring the name Suzanna. I am Scottish this is what it sounds like.

17caterpillars1mouse · 01/06/2020 16:19

Love it. Only didn't consider it myself as I'm not Jewish. Such a lovely, beautiful name

LittleRa · 01/06/2020 16:20

There’s a character on Girls called Shoshanna. She gets called Shosh (pronounced “shoa-sh”) for short. The actress who plays her is called Zosia Mamet (she’s David Mamet’s daughter).

Needmoresleep · 01/06/2020 16:20

Lots of lovely Jewish names. This is not one.

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 01/06/2020 16:20

I like it. Possibly because I am watching Girls at the moment and there is a character with that name. Her nickname on there is 'Shosh'.

GoatsDoRome · 01/06/2020 16:20

I like the name - know it from Inglourious Basterds so it’s not unheard of for me

Ughmaybenot · 01/06/2020 16:20

I read it as Sloshanna Blush it does sound like a slurred word of some kind, to my ear. Sorry!

Mimilamore · 01/06/2020 16:20

Really like it.....x

Drivingdownthe101 · 01/06/2020 16:21

I like it.

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 01/06/2020 16:21

Cross post with @littlera

seasidestarfish · 01/06/2020 16:22

I’m not keen sorry. Have you got any other options?

WhatASadLittleLifeJane · 01/06/2020 16:22

I love it. I heard it first from inglorious bastards and girls. I think it's very pretty.

Veterinari · 01/06/2020 16:24

I know a Shoshanna, nice name

SallyWD · 01/06/2020 16:24

I don't like it. Too many "sh" sounds. Sorry.

MissMoodyMoo · 01/06/2020 16:25

I really like it! Again I watched girls and the jewish character was called shoshanna! And I love when its shortend to shosh

Bells3032 · 01/06/2020 16:26

I have a cousin named Shoshannah. We are Jewish but never realised it was a Jewish name haha.

We all called her shoes growing up. Her friends now call her shosh

JoeExoticsEyebrowRing · 01/06/2020 16:27

I do actually quite like it, but when I say it out loud I feel like I sound like Sean Connery saying 'Susanna'!

So I'm not sure....

NameChange84 · 01/06/2020 16:28

I love Shoshanna. I think of the actress Shoshana Bean and the character Shoshanna on Girls. It’s a lovely sounding name and unusual in the UK.

Toilenstripes · 01/06/2020 16:29

I also thought it sounded like a cousin of Chardonnay.

avocadoze · 01/06/2020 16:30

It’s a beautiful name! I know two lovely Shoshannas. Good luck with the pregnancy Smile

HollyBollyBooBoo · 01/06/2020 16:36

It'll never get pronounced properly which would do my head it.

MintyMabel · 01/06/2020 16:37

I am Scottish this is what it sounds like.

There are many. many names which don't track well with a scottish accent. I wouldn't say that would be a reason to avoid them, especially if you aren't likely to be around many scottish people.

pilates · 01/06/2020 16:39

Sorry, I don’t like it.

LittleRa · 01/06/2020 16:44

@HollyBollyBooBoo How would it be pronounced?

AnnaSW1 · 01/06/2020 16:47

I've met one before. I don't mind it. She hated it though!
