DH is Jewish, I’m not. Looking at Hebrew names that are distinctive without being completely out there 👍

Phonetic pronunciation is “shosh-AH-nah“.
Sounds like “shoh-shanna”

Makes me think of Shoshana Bean a fantastic musical theatre singer/actress.

It's a beautiful name, not sure why it's not more popular and well known.

A friend of mine named his daughter this. I think it's lovely. They call here Shoshi for short.

I had a school friend called this. She did not tell me it was mis pronounced frequently.

She pronounced it "Shosh" "arna" (the second bit in the same way as per the main character in Frozen)

People usually shorten it to Shoshe (long o sound) and Shoshone which I think is nice. We know quite a few (in Canada) & no-one bats an eye. I’m surprised people are being off about it given how multicultural Britain is now.

She’ll probably be Shoshie when she’s small (Hubs started saying this first and he didn’t actually know that I was “Charshie” when I was little!!!)
I can imagine her being a teenager/grown up and using Shana or her full name 😊

We want to make sure she has a good alternative in her middle name just in case she hates it lol!

My problem is that I really like “Shoshanna” but I don’t feel completely convinced. I don’t like any other name as much and I can’t think of her kicking away in there with any other name 😅

It could be that when she’s born she’ll either suit it to a t or you’ll suddenly see her as an Elisheva or a Leat.

It's a lovely name! One of the service leaders at my synagogue is a Shoshana (one n) and her nickname is Shosh. She's fab and the name fits her really well. Lots of good nickname options!
